"Unstoppable Party"
I realize it's a tad heavy on the melee side, but I threw this party together on a whim and ended up dominating Dominus:

4 Lizardman Fighters with polearms/crossbows
1 Lizardman Rogue with Light Sword/Stilleto/crossbow
1 Faerie Bishop
No NPCs

The Lizardman Rogue with 100 Strength is an amazing melee character. He was doing 150-200 damage per attack, sometimes hitting for over 300 in certain circumstances! He could easily stand toe-to-toe with my berserking fighters. The good thing about a melee rogue is the Bloodlust sword. It seems like he does 4x damage with the innate berserk ability of the sword plus the rogues backstabbing skill. And if you're lucky enough to get a *Light* *Sword*, the damage is better still.

The key with this party is the polearm-equipped fighters. With the extended range, I spend less time moving in combat.

And with a bishop practicing all four spellbooks, I didn't need to invest time in a hybrid character. A Samurai or Valkyrie is redundant with a highly trained bishop in your party. And I don't care what anybody says, a fighter is better than a samurai as pure melee anyday. Heck, a rogue is better pure melee than a samurai.

Anyway, I can't think of a more deadly party than this one. It can be a little hard in the beginning until the bishop learns a few key spells, but once you get magic screen/armorplate/missile shield/enchanted blade/heal all, you are unstoppable.

Opinions anyone?

i had considered the fighters if i played again, thats for sure. they level insanely quick, and deal tons of damage...and you're right about the polearms. the extended reach is great...battles go so much quicker since you can reach more all around you.

there's a lot of reliance on that bishop tho. if he croaks, you could be sunk in a long fight.

just initial opinions here.

It's not bad, but I'd use a hybrid just because I couldn't bear having only one character learning the Portal spell. My first game, my Samurai was a waste. My second game, I think I like her overall more than my Fighter... her damage is comparable, she can summon Elementals, a few other useful spells, and use a Portal. It's a good thing.

The problem with the "Pure" classes are that they peak too early in the game. When they reach Lvl. 18 or so they are almost finished with their development. Sure, they still improve in their attributes, but all the important skills should almost be maxed out. Their are no "leaps" in character-development late in the game, which is a pity!

if youre worried about portals (valid complaint...i like having two chars with it...i have 5 at the moment hehe), make one of the fighters a lord or valk...they can learn the portal spells, still be tanks, and change to fighters later...besides they gain healing abilities too. thatll take some load off of the bishop.
