"Ascension Peak Patch"
Well here I am again. This time I found out the latest patch doesn't include the ascension peak patch. So I went to all four places listed for downloads. Here's what I found after becoming a member at all but one site (File Planet).

3D Gamer................No ascension peak download
File Planet.............Costs $8.98 to join download club
4 Players...............Ascension Peak download in German only
Gamers Press............No ascension peak download

Seems that they all had the latest patch but no others. Did I miss something after hours of filling out forms and clicking everyhting clickable?

Any suggestions?

1. "Ascension Peak fix in latest patch"
You only need to get the latest patch, not the first one (which mainly addressed the AP bug). The latest patch has all of teh first patch stuff in it.

I must not have the latest patch intalled in the right folder or its not being appied. I've been to both the Moutian AP entrance and the AP portal in the Rapax Castle and both of them Start to load then exit me back to my desktop.

I'll try to download again,.........Thanks

Your patch may not be applied correctly. There are some read only files in the Wiz 8 directory, and some unzip packages don't overwrite them. Unzip the patch to a different directory, and then use Windows Explorer to manually copy it to your Wiz 8 directory. You could also be having the corrupt levels.slf problem. Copy the levels.slf file from CD3 (levels subdirectory) into the Wizardry 8/levels directory. If that doesn't fix your problem, then a complete re-install may be necessary. Don't worry, your save games will be preserved.

If you still have the problem, then drop a note to bugs@sir-tech.com (note the hyphen in the address).

OK here is the deal.

I have downloaded the new patch again after deleting the one I had in the wiz8 files in first place.

Here's how it is; In my "C" drive I'm accessing my wiz8 folder under Sirtech.Under a sub folder in the data folder is a file called "Flics"...........Under Flics is a folder "patches"
In that folder in anotner folder called Patches ............In a folder under that is the file with my most reacent patch.

In that patch is a "Set up" icon. When activated it tells me a .DLL file is missing, and a sr.dll.

Sorry that's the best I can dicribe it

Where should the 2001_12_23 release anctualy go?

It hasen't done much good after I tried Asscension Peak.

Thanks for any advice..........................Laserbeam

6. "Path should be"
(unless you changed the default)

C:\Program Files\Sirtech\Wizardry 8

That is where the patch should go and be extracted to.

7. "RE: Path should be"
Hey......Thanks to all of you for all the help.

Here is what happened (all my fault)...when I thought I only needed patch .01 (Ascension Peak patch)I found it on the German site and so I downloaded it, tried the game with no sucess. It stayed in my patch file. I did the extract to method of the latest patch and when I hit set-up it scaned and a window poped up for me to verify settings. I tried that and to my suprise it said I'm doing the "illegal operation" thing and canged my puter resolution to the smallest and I had to shutdown.

I had the patch downloaded in my Getflash folder so I uninstalled the game and reloaded it (saves don't get eraced) then extracted the patch again. Tried to load different saves and the same thing occurs.....Shutdown.

I intend to COMPLETELY uninstall the game (saves and all) and start over.

I originally wanted to do this after I finished the game so I can build a different party and know the system much better.
Still should be fun.

Again thanks again for all the Help. I'll still be posting so see you then.

"I intend to COMPLETELY uninstall the game (saves and all) and start over."

You don't need to uninstall your save games. When you uninstall the game, it will leave the savegames intact. If you're concerned that they will be damaged, you can move them to a different directory and then move them back after you reinstall the game and reapply the patch. Once you have the latest patch installed, you should be able to reload your old saves with no problems.

I copied the saves to a seperate file AFTER I found out about the "Illegal Operation" that shows up when I try to load ANY of my saved games. I'll try that though and see if it helps, I'll be gone all weekend so I'll let you know on Monday.

Big Thanks

10. "RE: Path should be"
FYI..
I uninstalled Wizardry8 completely......100% including saves, and all other manually deleted files so that Sir tech is gone.

I did copy my saves and associated files so I could bring back my party and selectivly add old saves to the newly loaded Wizardry8 game.

I also had the latest (freshly downloaded) patch which I placed in the Wizardry8 folder per above. When it was there I unziped it (Winzip file).

The bottom line was I had to adjust all my new game options then I opened the saved game to Ascension Peak. My party was in tact but when I went through the Castle portal.........The game shut down. Seems that I will not see the end of the game.

Questions:
1. Contaminated Saved Games?
2. Patch not working?
3. Another requirement to enter? ( I have all three items)
4. If I start over Will I wind up in the same position?

11. "With the amount of problems you are having"
... you should probably address this to Sirtechs Tech Support. It may be more than just a patch issue ... it could be your system or drivers at this point (assuming the patch is applied correctly and you see version 1.2.4. when you start up)

12. "RE: With the amount of problems you are having"
Thanks to all with your help. I now am in Ascension Peak.
The last thread was most helpful......I never noticed the version on the game start-up so I never knew if the 1.2.4 patch was installed. It wasn't, so after playing with it I finally got it installed. I has been the most difficult patch I've ever done. I just moved a few saves from an outside file and I have my party back and was able to continue the game.

A note of interest: When I reloaded the game I also saved my party along with my saves. I thought I could put them in the import file and start a new game with them at full status.
The game won't accept them.

Anyway........Thanks Again

13. "RE: With the amount of problems you are having"
Patch 1.2.4 is equal to Patch2001.12.23. This patch cannot be auto-installed by WinZIP auto mode. You must make temporary folders named like WIZ8PATCH, and then You unzip Patch2001.12.23 used by WinZIP Classic mode, and extract all files to named WIZ8PATH. So You overwrite unziped files in the WIZ8PATCH to original program WIZARDRY8 files. Before this installation, I reccomend to make copy files of Saved games.
