"Toughest Monsters"
All the real toughies or Gorrors in Wiz 8 are pussy cats. My now level 21 (average) party has cleaned up Pee Wee, Nessie, Al Sedexus (a few levels ago). I hardly lost a hit point ot any of 'em in battle.

In Wiz 7 the Gorrors of The Thief of 9 Worlds, The Beast of 1000 eyes, now they were tough. I never did legitmately beat the Beast. I ended up editing up 6 level 100 characters to go in and clean him up - just to see if it could actually be done.

The tough fights tend to be groups of monsters. Like when I was going to Temple 2 at the Peak, 1 Greater Demon and 3 Imps of Dinjn - tough. 5 Characters died doing the business.

Or going to Temple 3 - about 30 Rapax Templars, Templar Knights and Archers had congregated to stop me, together with a 900HP "queen" in the middle spawning new Rapax as fast as I could kill them. That battle took me 45 minutes real time.

The superior combat interface of Wiz 8 has certainly made combat more fun than in the past (where the main attraction was in the riddles and puzzles IMHO) but it has probably also made it easier.

Human strategy where we learn by our mistakes (the computer generated monsters do not) makes it much esier to win tough battles than in previous versions of Wiz I think.

1. "Toughest Monsters (Spoilers for endgame)"

I know what you mean. The Gorrors fights were some of the toughest in Wiz 7, along with Brombadeg - that Thief killed me more than once and like you, I never did legitimately beat the Beast.

I would have liked to see something like PeeWee with about 10k HP and a much better chance of damaging. For example - explain to me how something that big throwing boulders can be deflected by a Missile Shield spell, regardless of its power level? Wouldn't that be more like being the victim of a power 7 Crush spell instead? The use of the Missile Shield spell was more than a bit unrealistic, even if it did save my bacon numerous times.

Another thing I would have liked was to see Al-Sedexus made a much tougher fight, like with having to use only certain weapons to harm her and not being able to knock her unconscious plus more HP again.

Lastly - the fight with DS at the end is really something of a let-down. He was -much- tougher to beat in the crypt in Wiz 7, as were his robotic minions throughout the tomb. Sure, the Ascension Peak battles were thrilling and dangerous and made me sweat to win them but that last battle wasn't even as tough as fighting Don Barlone. I went into it expecting to lose at least two characters and exhaust my SP and most of my stamina (even with Rest All) before beating him. It took me two rounds only because a couple of my chars retargeted to his minions when he summoned them.

I forgot about about the Godzilly in the Greater Wilds. About 5000hps, and weapons could not penetrate his dinosaur hide unless armormelt was cast about 4 times. If he successfully stomped it was about 500 hpts damage. He breathed fire as well, and also swiped. Easily the toughest non gorror monster in the game.

The thief needed multiple armormelts as well - just to touch him. In the meantime he had high level poisoned half your party with that sword of his which did 99hpts damage everytime he touched as well. He attacked about 4 times with 3 swipes each time and he was a gun swordsman. Killed him on about the 20th attempt I think.

Then I set the difficulty level to hard and there were two of him - aargh.

You great big bunch of pansies. Gorrors were very tough (except Rahsethwhatsisname) and I managed to beat ALL (yes all) of them. I did not edit my characters in any way. I changed them all to ninjas down in the teleport maze and found there was a cross between 2 tunnels that ALWAYS had monsters in it. Sit yourself down next to that, save your game, then charge in. If you won, you saved again and dived back in. Swap one character's profession to ninja, or monk, and go back in. Repeat until everyone has 100 stealth (which may take a while). Go back to the Gorrors. Swim around to whichever one, then rest outside. I killed the Fiend by having everyone hide, cast missile shield, then have anyone who can do spells, do spells. Cast a create or two, and have summoned monsters take the heat. Only attack if you are sure you can get in a good 50 to 100 points of damage, then melt back into the shadows. And, if memory serves, I beat 2 Fiends (accidentally on expert level) using this technique. And nobody died. (Although the Beast with 1000 eyes did inflict a stoning or two on my party. Ouchies)
It's only illegal if you get caught

4. "RE: Toughest Monsters (Spoilers for endgame)"
Hello.

I killed ALL monsters in Wiz 7 on hard level. Due my style of play nobody of my chars weren't dead or stoned during/after fight- never, nobody. Of course I reloaded alot. ALL hardest fights I win by melee. Actually sometimes I used magic, but not many of bosses felt bad due magic effects. So, if I could win fight with, say Lifesteal- I reloaded and meleed. I used Magic Screen, Enchanted Blade and so on. NEVER used Armormelt. NEVER summoned for hardest fights(though summoning Godzilla was fun ). Don't remember my party level- think it was pretty high.

My party was (toward end of game of course): Samurai with LS, Lord with Excalibur, Faerie Ninja with CoC and 3 monks with Zatoichi Bo's. ALL chars had ALL possible spells. ALL chars had maxed out ninjutsu, kiridjutsu- all could hide. ALL important skills maxed out too. I played through whole game on hard level. I tryed to meet hardest monsters for each fight for each specific spot to get more exp and to enjoy fights. Say if I should meet rattkin ronins- I reloaded until I met many of them and not rattkin hunters or even easier opponents.

Were alot of hard fights during game- even with not "named", but just regular monsters(due my style of play). Rattkin Ronins, Carnasauras, Demons and more... But hardest were named, with some exceptions of course. All hardest fights I got at high levels (relatevely)- so monsters had all powerful abilities.

Now about monsters (as I remember):

IMHO :

As I remember on hard level player meets 2 "Boss" monsters instead of one. For example I killed 2 Brombadegs. Not sure but exception maybe was Godzilla(maybe some 'named' too).

On easy and normal levels I think player could meet only Tirannasaur- easy version or Tirannasaur Rex for harder version. First hadn't KIA (or too rare) Rex had . Godzilla was hardest and rarest. Had KIA and very powerful hits. Very hard to kill. ALOT of HP.

Brombadeg(s) was(were) pretty easy- even high level one(s). Of course insanity cause problems.

High level Rodan Lewarx- very, very, very rare and pretty hard. He almost always was killed by somebody. Maybe hardest of "good" named. He liked to KIA alot.

Ke'Li with girls- pretty easy.

Rasputin, ""Named"" Orcogres, Umpanis, T'rangs- not too hard.

Named Munks, especially one brother- very hard at high levels.

Barlone with several razukas- very hard at high levels. Not so hard to kill, but hard to not let him run away with his little cane (it HAD TO BE MINE )) ).

Named Danés - pretty hard - especially with low mental skill.

Giants- not too hard to kill, but nice to slice such big meat pieces )).

All sorts of demons- pretty hard, not especially of course.

All bosses at final dungeon- very hard. Some of them VERY hard. Or even harder.(remember? no deaths or stoned conds.) At hard level pair instead of one.

Don't remember name- insects- just very hard to kill. Could be killed by KIA spell. Killed by meleeing after several ( many tryes). Alot of HP and nasty spells.

Fiend of Nine Worlds. Rat(s). At high levels hit for 99, 199 or 299. Poison(very powerful) and KIA alot. Alot of HP. Very, very hard to kill. I think I spent away quite some time to kill them. Several days(or maybe even many days).

Beast of 1000 eyes. Jelly fish. NASTY. Probably most HP. Their spells were crazy. Many times I wanted to stop trying to kill them. I remember one trying when only one almost dead (second was already dead) stoned me- just imagine what I told )). Probably hardest among that dungeon bosses (I think Fiend of Nine Worlds not far or even tied as almost as hard). Called hardest in whole game by many people. Tryed to kill at least for one week, maybe more.

Not sure- don't remember other dungeon bosses- probably were easier than those above.

And, finally my favourite. Remember Harpy-like (woman-bird) creature in your dream in Munkarama? Same looking monster. Name was something like MyxlMynx. Had lower level instance I think. At high levels (and hard difficulty) were 2 of them. Very, very, very rare. Could meet instead of Godzilla. PAIN. My party was non-stop crazy. I healed, hit, got crazy. And of course she escaped. I could kill only one of 2- second ALWAYS escaped. Tryed for more than months (with breaks of course). Anybody killed 2 of them at high levels?

Bye.

Eugene.

My stratey was to level up at the monster generator place close to that teleporter. At the end I reached like level 80-90 something. Fiend of 99 worlds is the toughest I think. Godzylli (the highest experience version) is tough too, it has criticals.

Heh, I won the fights against all the gorrors without editing the game either! But that last fight against Theif of the Nine Worlds... glorious! The best against the best! Though I think from now on I'll post with a different name; "-" doesn't seem to have much personality to it.

I don't know about that. What kind of accent do you put on the "-"? Try pronouncing it "\" or "/" or maybe "_". Try using a foreign language version like "~". See what works
