"Marten"
Ok, so i get to marten but i dont have the helm of serenity (nor do i know where to get it) and so i decide "hey, he's only level 38, why not kill him?" and so I do and and i get a key, a cape, and the destinae dominus. However... every1 still goes crazy and so i have 3 questions:

1.) does killing him screw me over for future gameplay? (plot wise)
2.) will my party return to sanity? (w/o helm or if not can i go find it and put it on and if so where is it?)
3.) and did i get all the right items from his drop to continue? (I'm also curious why he only had about 700k experience, hes level 38!!)

-thanks

1) No, it doesn't, but now you must fall down a hole to escape is crypt
2) The Helm is located in Trynton (rattkin tree). You need the Stone Idol from Marten's Bluff and his words from his diary to get to it. To temporarily regain somewhat of your sanity is give the DD to one member of your party you don't care about being insane; or you can (temporarily) class-change one of your characters on level-up to a psionic and give him the DD; psionics are immune to mind-affecting stuff. But the best thing is to get the Helm before you go to Marten, you can then talk to him for some useful information.
3) you really only need the Destinae Dominus. The cape is cursed, don't wear it. The Key is useless, because you've already used the 'other' 'Key to Marten's Tomb' to open his crypt, and you cannot open the large double doors now, so you need to fall through a hole.

You can get the stone idol in Marten's Bluff, but you have to enter it by the Mine Tunnel Entrance. That will get you 'behind' T'Rang lines. Once you''re there, take a right to the hallway (assuming you are walking into Lower Marten's Bluff) and then take the first hallway to your left. Follow that and you can climb some stairs. Up there, you'll fight some ghosts, and in one of the side rooms is a lever. Pull that, and a door will lower elsewhere. Also, after you killed the ghosts be sure to search that area; there are some useful spellbooks, an Amulet of healing and a bard instrument. Be careful not to step in the middle of the room with the wooden floorboards. That's a trap. When you're done there, find the other stairs down, and you'll get to LMB again. In the distance you'll occasionally see some T'Rang moving from one room to the other; they are going to their teleporter. You can fix that one with the Red and Yellow wires you found earlier by a T'Rang corpse. This will provide a convenient way to move around Dominus; Be sure to teleport to the house, open the door, and then go back. Moving along the hallway you get to another stairway. Go up this one and pull the lever. You can climb out and you're behind the fort. Make your way to the courtyard, walk in the newly opened doorway. Go up the left ramp and grab the idol. If Crock is still alive, he will kidnap one of your party members, so save before grabbing it to make sure someone gets missing that you can miss for the time being. You can get the character back by killing crock, going up his bedroom and opening his chest, or you can do his quest to kill Brekek the Giant Frog. The words are behind marten's painting in lower marten's bluff, near Sadok's shop. Click on it, type 'marten', kill ghosts, explore, and read diary. Go back to Trynton to the fifth bough (this is the place where you fixed the bridge earlier to get to the rattkin tree). Instead of going to the rattkin tree take the other path, where there is a pedestal. Put the idol on it and then you can speak to the shaman. Answer his questions ('Marten' and 'eternal trust survives the soul'). He will give you the key of serenity. Pickpocketing the Shaman will get you a guaranteed Spirit Staff for one of the custom items, and another Diamond Eyes. Go to the rattkin tree, Go into the house on your right, use the key on the door. There are some weak rattkin in there. On the floor is a sign. Click on it until it moves over, drop into the exposed hole, open the chest and grab the helm. Now, when you meet marten, be sure that one of your characters wears it (the faerie ninja is a good candidate). When you've got the DD, it is placed in the party inventory so everyone goes insane. Open the group inventory and place the DD in the personal inventory of the character wearing the helm. A quick rest will cure the insanity. If the DD ever gets in the party inventory again, everyone goes insane until the helm wearing character gets it again.

You can then speak to marten. Don't try to pickpocket from him because he will notice. Once you end the conversation, he'll give you the Sea Cave Gate Key. With this key you can open the big double doors and leave the sea caves.

all of that sounds good except for the mine tunnels part. i've been to the shack before with the 3 carts, i'm assuming thats what you meant, but i don't know how to operate them. So how exactly did u mean getting to lower bluff?

set the switches like this:
|..
-|.
.|.

the bottom one is the one in the bottom center. This will get you to the part where you can get into LMB. You can also find a Huge Silver Nugget there for one of ferro's custom items.
