"RE: Rynjin & going North thro' the swamp"
I'm trying to get to Mount Gigas, going North through the Swamp. 1st I ended up at the Mines (& then back to Marten's Bluff) so trying to go direct North. However, I can't get by the Rynjin blocking the small road North.

Can someone give me a lead, do I need something to get past them. They always get in the first shots and my gang are hexed or insane before I get to use anything or cast any spells.

Thanks

1. "Rynjin path"
You can use the terrain to your advantage here. If you walk the circular path (back behind or between the huts), you end up coming at them from around a corner. If you stop at the corner, intiate combat, then move forward, slightly, just around the corner enough to target them with long area attack spells. Then the next round withdraw, and they will advance. This should give you 1-2 rounds to cast buff and protection spells.

Then as they advance, you can target one at a time, withdraw more, etc.

It may take a few tries ... if that doesn't work, level up and come back.

Thanks I'll have ago but what is a BUFF spell ? and I don't seem to have much in the way of protection spells either. Do you mean razor cloak and the like ?

3. "Yeah, that kind of stuff"
(I may be using the term wrong, but ...)

Anything that increases your chances to do damage or helps resist damage, I consider a "buff" spell. The important one here is Soul Shield, and also Magic Screen. Bless, ArmorPlateHaste, wouldn't hurt ... and if you can bring an elemental in on your side, that would also help

4. "RE: Rynjin path"
A "buff" spell is a performance enhancer or protection spell. Long term ones (can be cast anytime) include Light, Enchanted Blade, Armorplate, Missle Shield, Magic Screen, Cameleon, X-ray, and Detect Secret. Short term ones (cast during battle only) include Haste, Superman, Razor Cloak, Ring of Fire, Bless, Soul Shield, and Element Shield. All these spells either improve team performance on an individual or group basis or help to protect the team from attack on an individual or group basis

I think we may all be missing something more basic here...

MJ is talking about trying to get to Mt Gigas. The path beyond the Rynjin is a *very* indirect path to Mt Gigas. If I remember correctly there are three very difficult maps between that path and the upper mt gigas caves. Not to mention the fact that if he hasn't already opened the door from the other side, I'm not sure he'd even be able to get *in* to Mt Gigas that way...

I'm sorry if MJ is in fact trying to go through the underwater route to Mt Gigas, but if he's having so much trouble with the Rynjin on the path, it seems somewhat unlikely...

From the swamp, the fastest way to Mt Gigas without using your own portals might be to go back to marten's bluff via the south exit of the swamp and use their portal to get to the NW wilderness right past the bridge and only a few steps away from the Umpani camp...

Wow - now I really know I'm new at this. I hadn't come across some of those spells yet and, though I have "Light" hadn't realised what type of spell it was.

Haven't found some of the entrances (or portholes you call them) yet either.

So thanks for all that I'm now back with renewed enthusiasm to find my way - having once thought I would give up.

This is my first RPG and am really finding it great particularly with help from you folk so I don't end up throwing it in the bin from frustration.

7. "Some useful info "
This board has lots of information for both neophyte and expert alike. Even Llevram and Marc the board adminstrators occasionally get surprised (and thev've been there and done it many many times ) If you have a question about anything sometimes try the search utility. With a key word like "potions" or "gadgeteer items" you will get all the threads that contain that word. In the threads information as well as pointers(sometimes) to other sites that can give you more help than you can imagine.

You know that as you go up in levels you can leatm spells but another way is through books. NPC some time sell them. if you are powerful enough in magic and are capible of learning it (spells come in 4 magic types only 1 profession learn all 4 types Bishop.) Good luck and Enjoy.

8. "RE: Some useful info "
Thanks Avatar wondered how to use spell books - this sent me off to find out, so that's a little more info.

I do do searches first and have found some info that way, however, I am having difficulty finding the exit from Marten's Bluff to the NW Wilderness. Don't think I've found my way around all of M's Bluff yet, seem to be some places I can't get to - in particular a door at the back with no handle / lock?

What are the squeeze things for ? Found the dummy but will have to go back to Crock for that perfume for that, then do I just give it to the dummy?

Beginning to get a bit stuck as every avenue I go I seem to be coming up against creatures etc I can't win against. Might have to start again with new team but don't really fancy going all the way through the parts I've done once. I don't seem to be very strong on "ranged" combat or on protective spells - any suggestions anyone ?

Thanks again

9. "Directions to Mt Gigas and Umpani Base Camp "
There are 4 ways to get back to Mt Gigas one of which is impossible to use unless you came from Mt. Gigas that way.

1. (easiest) From the entrance to MB proceed west northwest through the Swamp to Trynton, Trynton to Trynton-Arnika Rd, T-A Road to Arnika Road, Arnika Road to NW Wilderness,
Nw Wilderness to UBC. This route is the easiest because you are moving through mostly civilized areas where you can resupply easily.

2. (harder) From the entrance to MB proceed north through the Swamp cross the bridge at the center of the Swamp then priceed north west across the Swamp to the Mine Tunnels. Mine Tunnels to Lower Martins Bluff, LMB to MB, MB to LMB, Half way through this part of LMB you can access the T'rang transporter. This transporter once fixed by using the red and yellow wires you found near the T'rang arm (you did find the t'rang arm ) can take you to 1 of 4 places Arnika-Trynton Rd. Mine Tunnels, Rapax Rift, and NW Wilderness. This route is harder because the monster levels are higher and in the Mine Tunnels area are attacking frequently

3. (hardest) From MB go east through the Swamp to the entrance of the SE Wilderness, SE Wilderness to Mountain Wilderness, Mt. Wilderness to NW Wilderness, NW Wilderness to UBC. This route is the hardest because you will face the toughest monsters outside of Ascension Peak.

4. (impossible) Unless you came to Marten's Bluff from Mt. Gigas by this route you will be unable to go very far into Mt Gigas because of a large steel door that can only be unlocked fro the uther side. From MB go north through the Swamp cross the bridge continue through the Swamp to Bayjin, Bayjin to Bayjin Shallows, BS to Umpani Underwater caves, UUC to Mt Gigas. The monsters here are as bad as #3 and at the end of your trip to be faced with a locked door that you can't open from that side well...

Hope that this info helps you as you wander around the wonderful world of Dominus. Good luck and good hunting.

Thanks Avatar - much appreciated. Have now found way to caves in Mount Gigas and am about to search out the Gunnery.

Thanks again, these "spoilers" really are great when you get stuck.
