"an interesting thing happened on the way to bayjin"
I happened upon the 7 buc' ghosts and 5 psi sharks.

I cast turncoat on one and only one of the sharks. After about two or three more rounds, all 5 sharks were my allies.

I figured after the ghosts were defeated, they would turn hostle....but no, they stayed friendly. I followed them all the way up to the next set battle of rynjins where they still remained friendly.......

Unfortunately, I did not save this game since I did not get my "light" sword from the ghosts....but I'll have to see if it will happen again with other battles....

PS.....still testing that "excalibur--light sword" hypothesis...and so far have noticed that I am 0 for 5 in restarts for any drop whatsoever of the ghosts when I am equipped with excalibur......without it, the ghosts drop at least 1 bag usually the vaporizor......

1. "Excalibur and light sword"
after 20 reloads while having the excalibur(along with the ring of regeneration and great bow(good ol' Davey Jones) it seems that I get the ghosts to drop more often and more bags depending on where they are standing and how far they have moved from their original spot at the onset of battle.....

I'm beginning to believe where they are standing and what direction they are facing when they die makes a big difference in what they drop---quite reminicent of the good old mystery menus from wiz gold-----Location, location, location(direction and grid location)....

so far the best two drops out of about 50 bags has been the frontier phaser(twice and apparently in the same general area) and the mystery ray(also twice and in the same area) and of course 50 vaporizers---of course I do not have a gadgeteer in this party....

5. "Davey Jones"

Please forgive me my ignorance, but I’ve been wondering for years now, who or what “Davey Jones’ Locker” is. I know that it regularly pops up in Wizardry – Games, usually in quite strange places or areas, which are difficult to access (I loved the string of puzzles that led to the discovery of the locker in Wiz6!) and it is always full of nice items.

Please enlighten me!

8. "RE: Davey Jones"
Davy Jones was a famous ( or infamous ) pirate who had a habit of after killing all his victims and looting their ship sinking the ship. He became so noted for this that peuple would say whenever a ship was sunk that it has been sent to " Davy Jones' locker" i.e. the bottom of the sea. Hope this eases the confusion.

I thought Davey Jones was a singer for the Monkees and the girls back in the 60's started all of that "locker" stuff.

10. "direction and grid location"
I have two teams almost ready to go to NessieLand. I can test the Mystery Menu connection over the weekend.

AND try a new Move Crock Out Of The Way trick described on the VN board. Drop an NPC, attack them with one player only so you don't kill them. When Crock joins the fight run upstairs, the NPC teleports home and the battle ends. There might be a problem getting the kidnap victim back after the kidnapping, thats another thing to check.

15. "RE: Excalibur and light sword"
Ok, after 40 trys I gave up on the ghosts but did manage to get the light shield twice and the stave of 12 stars once--among other pretty good treasures. Did notice I got more bags to choose from depending on where I and the ghosts were when I killed them---didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference on what I got where though.

I stuck with the frontier phaser along with my excaliber and went on to try my luck on the chest in bayjin. On only my 2nd reload I got the light sword and emerald talisman then saved there to try and shake the light shield out of Jan---which I did on my 2nd reload.

Conclusion: You can have have your cake--light the candles with a phaser, cut it with excaliber and the light sword, and serve it on the light shield--and eat it too

You just saved your game before Janette and reloaded until you got the item(s) you wanted?
I thought that even Janette's items would be preset once you enter Bayjin.

NPC and monster drops are random-at-death. Chests are random-at-first-entry-of-the-area. Also, she dies faster if you click while she is speaking.

9. "RE: an interesting thing happened on the way to bayjin"
The "turn friendly" trick happened to me with the Rynjin Swamp guards. They attacked the controller and helped me kill him. After I entered Bayjin, cleaned it out and returned they remained friendly.

Someone else had the same thing happen there, and someone else reported a group of friendly sentries inside Bayjin.

This is the first mention of turncoat being involved.

There has been speculation that the Rynjin Civil War might cause this behavior, maybe SirTech removed all the civil-war code except for a few lines involving side-changing.

I think this may be a bug. It never happened to me and can spend a long time in Bajin

That would be plausible. I've never met friendly Rynjyn, but I've had the Rapax Templars on the Peak turn on the prince and Al-Offspring.

It is, however, pretty unlikely that the original game concept included friendly psi-sharks. (Unless they were pets of some Rynjyn?)
