"Leaving powerful items for the next generation"

I was just wondering... Has anyone ever tried to save a game out when they are quite high level, and leave items for a new round of players?

Specifically, I was thinking you could dismiss everyone but a high level priest, for example, who has a resurrection spell. Then create all new characters in a relatively easy area of the map. They can then equip themselves with all the heavy duty armor of the previous party. Since the battle generator will spin off the high level priest, they will die frequently as they rapidly gain levels, but the priest can resurrect them again and again...

The benefits are immediate access to high-level weapons with new characters. Drawbacks could be many: the quests are mostly done, the characters will rise through levels rapidly without developing their skills simultaneously, etc...

But I was just wondering if someone had done this, and what the result was?
