"How do I kill Nessie?"

I have a L14 party: Fighter, Bard, Rogue, Gadgie, Priest, Mage.
Not only does Nessie splatter them, they barely do any damage to her. Yes, I have Magic Screen, Enchanted Blade, Armorplate. My mage casts Element Shield, then summons an elemental that does absolutely NOTHING to Nessie. My priest tries everything: Paralyze, Instant Death, nothing works.
My fighter and gadgie nick her for around 10 points a shot. Meanwhile Nessie drops earthquakes that kill half the party.
Is level 14 just too low? Should I come back later? I still have plenty of stuff to do in the Marten's Bluff area.

Pick one of the sides in the T'rang vs. Umpani faceoff and perform the quests assigned, or choose both and avoid being unmasked until you can get them to agree to ally with one another. That will keep you busy awhile.
You might do a search for threads about the SE Wilderness and the Temple there. I think some level 14's have tried that one and lived through it; for Nessie, you have to try sneaking past at your level, and come back later on.

If you don't want to wait and enjoy a long fight
you can use a couple of summon elemental potions
to keep her busy. Dulcimer of mending comes in handy
here. Don't try to engage her close up, just keep
healing your party and keeping your protection spells
up. The elementals will hit every once in a while
and you'll whitle her down.

Yeah, I did the mines, Bayjin and cleaned up the Sorceress temple, then came back to deal with Nessie. At L17 Nessie went down, along with half the party. The mage went down early, the gadgie halfway through and the priest when Nessie had only 100 left.
Now my L21 party is in Rapax land. THERE'S some fun fights!

you're probably beyond lv 14 now, but I'll post some ideas for other readers anyway.
Of course, you can come back later, depending on play style a lv 14 party can be much to weak to cope with a monster like nessie, but there are some things I did differently and it worked at lv 15.
Nessie and other high level monsters are immune to condition spells so my priest (bishop in my case) just helps the party - rest all and heal of course and most importantly "Superman". I had the same problem with my fighters, they did minimal damage, but the spell helped (alternatively each fighter downs a bottle in the first round). If your gad has a Holograph Projector just let him cover all your chars, while your priest keeps him concious. Since you have a bard, Heal all is another option, to buy some time. Just focus on your party first then go for close combat.

PS: My mage was pretty useless except for element shield and armormelt and the latter didn't seem to make any difference. So she was just practicing and cast random attack spells at high levels to increase power cast.
Any suggestions?

I went up against Nessie with a level 13-14 team. 2 canned elementals and 1 summoned elemental ran up to her. 1 Elven Bow and 1 Great Bow firing Mystic Arrows from extreme range wore her down to 400+ points. Then I made the mistake of moving in for the kill. We did less damage up close and we died.
We finally beat her when she ran out of stamina points (1950!!) and did 150 points damage in one round.

Lure her against the rocks. Then engage her. Take a couple of swings in melee range then retreat behind the rocks. Heal wounds and engage again.

Critical Strike is great - kill Nessie with one shot.
Of course you have to survive long enough.
The way I killed her the first time (with lvl 11/12 characters)
is somehow I was in the cave entrance coming from Bayjin and I backed up to the wall. She was in arrow range, but her earthquakes didn't affect us. Had to reload twice to do enough damage to finally bring her down - but I didn't take any damage at all.

I killed her at level 14-15, several times, as I tried to get something worthwhile out of DJ locker. Alot of your strategy will depend on the classes you have.
My party is melee heavy (monk, fighter, rogue, bard, ranger, bishop, robot monk), so I need to get in close. Hopefully she will bite (and miss) more than she breathes or casts - when she predominately bit, I'd win (except for one really bad fight where she swallowed EVERYONE). Elementals can help quite abit, Air can hit her (for whatever reason), but even earth and water might distract her for a round. Superman and haste are great spells to use, as was mentioned above don't bother trying to nuke her, just buff and heal.
However, if you don't have a caster that can cast magic screen/armorplate/enchanted blade/element shield all at level 7, I probably would recommend some of the other strategys mentioned above - ducking behind rocks etc.

With a solo ninja, at level 23, I think (it's been a while), be fast with element shield (at least lvl 6, keep that spell active!) have plenty of points in water group for 'stamina' and plenty of healing ability. Kick and punch your best. Defend while Nessie's 'body of stone' is active (save your effort then). Nessie at novice level is less than 900 hitpoints. If your equipment and skill are at their best, you can succeed. Hope this helps.
Spoiler: You might be able to avoid Nessie and all the stinky fish from Umpani UTU entirely if you go through the tunnel at the north edge of the swamp, but why pass up a million plus XP?

You kill nessie with something big, heavy and sharp with a character having the same traits.
A Lizardman Fighter (well 2 out od 3 anyway) will take her down quick smart. Although Level 14 is the minimum you would want to be to do so.
Armourmelt, bless, enchanted blade will help plus all the other buffing spells you can think of.
I have never had a problem with Nessie even at around level 14/15 but to balance that I have never had a sniff of Excalibur or the Light Sword either.

I had lots of problems killing Nessie with the ranged approach. Finally, I adopted the more frontal approach, and killed her the first time I went nose to nose with her. I had an elemental summoned to distract her a bit, but she wiped it out pretty quickly. Other than that, my liz fighter kept wacking away with bloodlust, and she fell quite easily. Nothing like the gorrors in the other game, where you couldn't kill them with a bazuka, a tank and unit of Navy Seals!!! Those were some great monsters!!!

pretty easy......throw or shoot some tai-lai or medusa stones,or shoot some mystic arrors to disable nessie, (from a distance...then filet her)

Whew! Finally beat Nessie! Took an hour and a half of trying. Key things:
- Mystic Arrows
- Medusa Stones
- Armormelt
- Summoned/Canned Elementals
By the way, I was able to pick up more of the "good stuff" that some of the merchants were hiding by pickpocketing them with my Ninja. Crock and the lady in the Arnika fishing shop were good.
