That could be because you can't go directly to the Mtn. Wilderness from the Swamp.

You need to go to the SE Wilderness and once you get to the little pavilion (trust me, you'll know what I mean when you see it) keep following the road along the shoreline. You should end up at what looks like a mine tunnel. Follow that through to get to the Mtn. Wilderness right by the Rapax Rift.

The only other entrances to the Mtn. Wilderness are 1) from the N. Wilderness across a long bridge and 2) if you teleport into Ascension Peak from the Rapax Castle you can walk out of it to get to the Mtn. Wilderness up by Bela.

And yes, 17-20 is more than enough for the Mtn. Wilderness AND the SE Wilderness. You might want to detour past the temple in there for a few nice items after a nasty fight.

My party wasn't ready to go there, but near as I can tell, you go through the Southeast Wilderness, past the temple on the mountain, to the shores of the central sea and through the water to get there. I've had my party up on that mountain at about level 10, and decided it would be a waste of time going into the temple. The northern wilderness spreads across the north side of the inland sea - here's a link to a map of the part of this planet you can explore:

Have to be on the north side of Dominus and you are in the south. Go through the Northern wilderness. Take the Arnika-trynton road North.

5. "RE: Maps and the Mountain Wilderness"
I love having maps for these games and those are my primary reason for buying hints books. But you can tell with the one for this game that the author didn't get to have his text verified by anyone actually trying to play with the book as a guide, or they would've realized they weren't "connecting" the maps that are in the book with each other very well.

Mark Volberding ("Xignal") just put screen captures of the game's own maps on /in his walkthrough web site and those are plenty good. He had the same map as the australian one, but with some bright yellow ribbons of paths connecting everything.

Glad it helped!
