"Question about Bards"
LAST EDITED ON Nov-26-00 AT 07:47 AM (Pacific)

I just started over with Wiz 6 and took a bard along for all those nice sleep spells(lute). I know in wiz 7 if you class change a bard he/she can still use instraments(sp?) as long as there is points in the music skill. Is the same true for Wiz 6 if so how much does one need before changing class. My bard is now a Samuri and I would like to still use the lute and any other instraments(sp?) i come across.

Just tried to use the liut and nothing please tell me this is a bug inmy savegame.

thanx in advance
JB

I'm pretty sure that musical instruments, in W6 AND 7 are class specific items, which means you would actually need to be a bard to use them. However, after the first 1/4 or so of both games, the power of the instruments doesn't keep pace with the power of the monsters, so after that point you probably won't get much use from the instruments anyway.

...I know that you can use a musical instrument no matter what your class is in both versions of W7 as long as you have the music skill.

Sorry, but in my opinion only bards could use instruments in W6. In W7 they must reach a music skill of 100 before class-changing.
Correct me, if I'm wrong.

In CoDS and WizGold, anyone with at least 1 (ONE) in their music skill can use musical instruments. I have, on many games, changed my bard to a Samurai and even to a ranger or Ninga or Bishop ( all with LESS than 100 in music skill) and had no trouble using any of the musical instruments. I have seen entries on this board saying that the Poets Lute is only usfull for the first part of the game, but I found it usefull even up to the Dragon Caves, with a skill level of 100 of course. Once I even edited a newly started game, I gave my mage 1 point in music and a Poets Lute, she was able to use it fine( with many abuses until her skill was > 10 ).

Thanks for the quick response. I amat the point where I don't really need the music anymore.
