"Bane OK on PII but not PIII Win98SE"
Bane used to run just fine on my PII 300, but since upgrading (?) to a PIII 550 its a no go.

moslo c:\bane\wroot.exe produces one of three results

a) complete lockup
b) divide overflow error (yes, have got the wroot patch)
c) screen flashes and straight back to DOS prompt

Have also tried moslo /5 wroot.exe etc

What else can I try, please???

CONFIG.SYS
DOS=HIGH,UMB
device=c:\windows\himem.sys
device=c:windows\emm386.exe noems

AUTOEXEC.BAT
LH C:\WINDOWS\AU30DOS.COM
SET BLASTER = A220 I5 D1 T4

1. "A couple things"
You didn't say if you were running in a DOS window or not, I assume you are not, that you are running after booting up into DOS (not booting to Windows, then exiting to DOS). If not, try that.

Also, some people say they are able to clear up these kind of speed/clocking issues by turning of the cache on their BIOS. To me, this is kind of extreme, but it may work for you. Just remember to turn it back on when you reboot for Windows, otherwise everything will be running at 386-like speed (or worse).

>Thanks for that.

Turning off Level 1 Cache in BIOS does indeed allow Bane to run -nothing else does it.
Extreme, but pretty quick and simple.

Live & learn,

4. "Only one place"
I think the only place you can get Bane on CD is in the Ultimate Wizardry Archives, which is no longer 'in press'. You may be able to find a copy on a bargain shelf somewhere or on ebay.

It may have been a part of soem compilation as well, but even if it was, it would probably be in the same boat (out of print).

I saw Wizardry Archives today at J&R.

PS
I just checked their web sites and here is it:

though right now it says low stock.
