"Finally got the Archives and began playing Wiz1"
Any hints for a complete newbie to this part of the series? I would especially appreciate any MAPS *kind of desparate on that point*, because I'm now running around in the first three rooms of the maze and levelling. Any time I tried to go further I lost my way, somehow.

I also lost several parties and a char rolled with 29 points *sniff* because of playing from the CD where the program didn't seem to save my progress ...

That leads me to another question:
Where does the game put the saved data? There's no directory in which the auto-install puts Wiz1, and in the directory itself are no changes ...

1. "Thanks for your answers :-)"
Another question occured to me:

What has to be done, to actually get the treasure from chests?
In the latter Wizardrys, it didn't matter if you disarm it or not, you get the loot. But this doesn't seem to hold for the Proving Grounds.
Is the only way to get the treasure a thief, which disarms the trap?

3. "wiz1.com, wiz1.dsk, save1.dsk"
wiz1.com is the program, wiz1.dsk is the scenario file, and save1.dsk is your saved game! all stored easily in your C:\WIZARD15 directory.

i _always_ backed up the save1.dsk file into an other directory before i started the game, in case something awful happened. of course, like llevram said, batch files fullfill the same action.

i am a bit foggier when it comes to tresure chests... sorry.

2. "Saved game location"
As I recall, the archives will put Wiz 1-5 in a directory named Wiz15 (or something like that). In that location, you will find the executables (like Wiz1.exe) and saved games (only 1 saved game - I think it is Wiz1.dsk or Wiz1.sav).

I think there was some discussion a long time back about how to write a DOS batch file, to run instead of running the executable, to make a backup of your saved game every time you start (to prevent those unfortunate mishaps )
