"Need help on Wizardry 4"
I'm stuck on a part of Wizardry 4 and really need some help. I've gone to the Gates of Hell, collected everything that I need and I'm heading for the cosmic cube. But when I enter the level before that, I move to the east off the sign and I keep getting stuck in a 1x2 room that I can't transport out of (at least not on the same level) and the get out of jail free card doesn't work.

Please tell me I'm missing something, because if it's a glitch in my version I'm going to be really upset.

Thanks.

CJ--

I remember that room...should be able to avoid it if you take the right path. It's been many years since I played, but there's a ridiculously detailed walkthrough with maps at http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Corner/1441 which can give you the exact steps to take through that level. Good luck...

I checked the walkthrough. It says "Go 1E, and 1E through a one-way passage. Go 2N into a rotator." I go 1E, and then with the second 1E I get boxed in. Any suggestions?

analander has an awesome site dedicated to the wizardry games here:
http://www.tk421.net/wizardry
check the walkthrough for WizIV to see if it offers any help.

I appreciate the responses, but you guys are missing an important point. I have the walkthrough. What's happening is something that's not in the walkthrough. I can't get anyone at Interplay to respond and no one seems to know why I'm stuck like this. Any other suggestions?

- CJW

Hmm... Do you play UWA?
You may try to compare what you have with the map at
http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze2hsmz/Wiz4Maps.html
I'm not sure about any other releases but I have spend
a lot of time making it and pretty sure it should not
have an errors. If you maze is different you may have
corrupted files.

Yes, I do play the UWA version. I had IV originally on my Apple IIc and got as far as the Cube, but never finished it (the only game I never finished, so you can understand my desire to do so). So I purchased this version to do exactly that.

I can pinpoint the problem on the map. It's level four, two east, three north. It's as if the rotator just to the north is permanently stuck facing a direction that automatically puts a wall to the south _ shutting me in when I come back up the stairs.

Crazy idea - but do I need to go back to that square and have it reset somehow?

Scratch that idea. For some reason I can't get to that square. I think my version is messed up - which really ticks me off.

AFAIR some actions (except moving in square)
rotate all those room. I.e. saving and loading
on that level... May be something else. You may
need to do it couple of times to get it open
in certain direction...
If that will not work for you then you may
need to teleport (let's say one square north)
by means of editing save file. That should be
enough.

Great ideas, but I've tried them with no success. The teleport spell doesn't work because I'm not in the cube yet and can only teleport down to the first or second level. I get back only to get stuck again. Very frustrating. Oh, and I've tried saving at numerous places and the same thing always happens.

So no one's every heard of this? That's not good ...

I have no idea what that is, but a very strange thing happened yesterday. I went up and down the staircase a few times and it seemed to reset the level. A few hours later, I solved the game. Thanks everyone anyway.
