For your first question, have you clicked "3D View" and checked all but the last two boxes there?

For the second, I'm not sure. Generally, a persistent item in an RPG is one that doesn't disappear no matter how much time goes by, but it seems that persistent items in Wizardry 8 are ingredients, gadgets and custom made items.

'Persistent Item' = 'Persist in NPCs' inventories.
I'll change it to 'Persist at NPCs'. Will it be more clearer?

Not meaning to get off-topic, but as long as Mad God is talking about the editor ...

Any progress on turning the Terrain Viewer into a Terrain editor ?

Nope, sorry, not yet.
Currently I'm experiencing some changes in my life and virtually up to my ears in troubles.

I made few tiny little steps, though. I started to code the converter from W8 3D model formats to 3DS format, but that thing is kinda suspended right now.

But I'm looking forward to it. It would be interesting to me as well as to others.

Thanks, guys!
Actually nothing too grave has happened or happening (at least I hope so).
The main drawback is that I have little or no time to dedicate to my hobbies. As for the rest... I have very strong belief that those troubles are just life.

Have you considered releasing the source code for the editor ? Some of us have way too much free time and no lives to speak of.

Nay, I believe it won't do any good.
There are still too many huge blank spots in the data to make editing, though partial editing is "theoretically" possible to implement.

Sometimes it helps to have a second pair of eyes on the problem.
For something this big, maybe 10-12 pair.

Sometimes when you explain a problem, you hear what you are saying, and say "Oh, wait a minute ...".

Sometimes you rethink the problem when you answer somebodies dumb question.

If we can get a few blank spots filled in, the rest of it might snap into place. For example, I am obsessed with invisible walls. Most visible walls are solid, some you can walk through (Rapax Castle). The Swamp seems to be filled with invisible walls preventing me from getting in the river or climbing onto low rocks. A simple bit true-false Boolean might control solid-versus-walk-through.

Slippery terrain might be a single true-false bit somewhere. There is a spot behind Lorrac's desk where you can hop up on the desk. Is that the same mechanism as the bubblers in Nessie's Bay ?

Mad God doesn't have time to work on an editor.

Mad God has the source code that is almost (50%?) of an editor. The source code contains much of the database relation knowledge necessary to create a terrain editor. It is a terrific starting point.

Some of us have the time. Some of us have the coding skills.

If we are going to get a terrain editor we need to do it ourselves, and we need to show the owner of the source code that we have the desire, time and skills to do something with his source code.

If anyone else with coding skills would like to take a shot at creating a terrain editor, lets hear from you. I don't speak whatever language he used to create the editor, but I'm willing to look it over and try something in Visual Basic. It is the only language I have available and it is not recommended for this type of project.

If we can get enough people (with skills) to volunteer, maybe Mad God would hand the project off to the rest of us. Or we could stumble into enough discoveries to encourage Mad God to give it one more try.

.. is my excuse right now. But what is wrong with VB for any project? Why is it "not recommended for this type"?

I used WizEdit as the my project to learn VB.

"Real programmers" use C++ and Java and all that object-oriented *&^%. I don't. It might do a fine job, but I suspect we would need someone with experience with those languages.

We don't even know what language he used to write it. Or if it needs some special DB access package.

My opinion is that you need to post this on the vn boards. I don't mean to belittle this board, but there are more people posting there than here.
As far as the project goes, I'd love to participate, but I'm not a techie, I wouldn't be able to contribute. But I would love to see a terrain editor and the resulting mods!
