I had come across this, and my first thought was to leave someone standing there.. so I dismissed a NPC until they were standing on it but it wasn't budging, so I figured I'd have to come across the answer later on in my quest.

1. "I thought weight did not matter ..."
(Size is another issue)

I thought I dropped a feather dart on it and that worked ... could have been a stone ...

I wish there were more puzzles like this in the game.

2. "Weight does NOT matter"
I used to put one of the blue flowers on it. Even easier is to use one of the sneeze powders that are hidden right accross the tunnel from the pressure plate.
(there are more fun things to do with the flowers--one is to put them in the glasses on a bar.)
