"Greater Demon and Cloud Djinns at AP"
Any ideas on defeating or getting past these guys? I'm trying things like using the "twice effective against demon" weapons, banish spells but not much else cause they've all cast eye for an eye, using lots of rings of breezes to purify air. All other ideas welcome. Many thanks

What's your level, and what's your party make-up?

Me...I have a pair that was level 28 or so, a valk and a samurai. I got as close to them as I could, surprised them, and cast Soul Shield and Element Shield in the surprise round. (I hid behind a rock actually, so only the greater demon could see me while the dijinns were casting their cloud spells.) Then, while the Greater Demon was ineffectually casting Nuclear Blast, I summoned an elmental, let it go after the demon and then headed around the rock the other way. Because there was enough space between me and the elemental, the cloud spells didn't hit us as often, and I nailed two of the djinns before the elemental bit the dust. Instant killed the third and went to town on the Graeter Demon. I uh, don't think that strategy is going to work for everyone, but the elemental decoy worked well

Eliahad,

Many thanks. Awesome you're doing that with a party of two. I'm relatively new to the game, am using one of the classic parties - 6 members, I have a fighter, monk, ranger, bard, mage and priest. They are at lower levels - ranging from 22 to 24. This is the farthest I've gotten so far, so I still have some good parts to go. Using the elemental is a good idea, I'll try that. One dumb question - any permanent down side other than loss of pride if mine get killed a lot? I think in some of the earlier games that if you get killed a maximum number of times, you forfeit the character, but I don't think that's the case here. Congrats on yours with just two.

Death is a part of the game, and it's good practice for Ironman when you can't go back and restore a lost party. Of course, others will tell you ways to save your lost party anyway...There is no side effect to dying in Wizardry 8 other than the normal loss of experience points (unless their resurrected before the end of the battle.) so die away, and feel proud that they fought to the very end.

Let's see, with your party I would still try and lure the demons around one of the many outcroppings on Ascension Peak, and even use the elemental to start the fight while you get your buffs up. Use Banish, even if they have eye for an eye up, /you/ are not undead, and it won't affect you anyway. Get Superman on the Fighter and Monk (fighter first) and stark going berserk on anything you can get close to. (I mean berserk, it's the only way to use the fighter, not the only way, but the most effective, especially by your level). The Ranger should probably have some critical skills by now, and eagle strike (if not, get senses to 100 as soon as possible.) and he'll be doing some good damage as well.

Good luck, I hope it doesn't take too many fights, and if all else fails, wander around for a while, there's plenty of monsters on ascension peak to practice on.

(in playing through 8 or more times)

I always sneak by, adn when caught, cast purify air and get the heck out. Once in a while, I will manage to kill the Greater Demon.

(funny side note) It took me until about the 4th or 5th tiem through to realize why these were called "cloud" Djinns ... I just assumed it was where they lived

Have you tried Death Bombs? If you go to combat mode before they see you and throw it fast enough you can avoid the EyeForAnEye they love so much. The djinns have a high air resistance but Death Bomb usually gets one djinn per fight. Toss it, dump an elemental to occupy the djinns and run away. Works pretty good for me.

Ah ha! I finally reached it, 3 djinn of clouds and a greater demon! Oh that was challenging... Soul shield, elemental shield, ect... Eye for an Eye on half my chars, used all my peacemaker arrows, all my medusa stones... but I got em! Weee! Btw... cast 4 level 5 death wishes, none did a darn thing cept eat all my mana. I suggest not running past them, more rewarding to kill them all for 444k exp. ^^ (btw, didn't lose a guy. ^^) This was with a 6 person party, Dracon fighter, bishop, mage, ninja and bishop, and a mook fighter (18 levels of samurai though, changed for giant sword.) All around 18-20 characters.
