Hello everyone! My party is nearing the point where I want to switch everyone to their second class, and I want to field suggestions for what these new classes can or should be. This is tricky not only because I have to take into account what skills and spells my characters will learn, but also what weapons they can wield. Weapon choice is especially important for the back row characters, who I assume would only wield pole or ranged weapons if I want to avoid shuffling them around.
Here's my party:
Lizardman Samurai, male
Dracon Samurai, female
Rawulf Priest, female
Felpurr Mage, female
Mook Psionic, male
Gnome Bard, male
I was not necessarily trying to optimize race/class/sex combinations, though I did roll until I got at least 17 attribute points when creating them. I managed to get 24 points for my Lizardman!
I intend to switch my Priest to a valkyrie. Switching my Psionic to a monk seems to make sense (both in game terms and, for me, in role playing terms). The neophyte Monk would seem to be limited to pole or ranged weapons though given his marching order.
I get the impression everyone switches their bards to ninjas, and I have been training my Bard's ninjutsu. However, his combat potential seems limited due to his position in the back. You should also know that I haven't so far used my bard for much other than singing and thievery, with weak offensive magic support and the odd out-of-battle utility spell (mostly Direction). I have not built up his thaumaturgy skill.
I want my Mage to switch to a combat role (as opposed to, say, a priest) but I'm leery about switching her to a Samurai because it's not like I need another Samurai. I had thought my Mage turning into a Ninja would make sense, though I'm not sure what impact that will have on my Mage's spell learning since Ninjas learn Alchemy.
As for my Samurai, I have no idea what their next class ought to be. Mage seems to be the most compatible, but then I loose my front-line fighters and their ability to wield all that fancy weaponry and armour. I haven't been building up their thaumaturgy anyway, choosing instead to build up their kirijutsu.
Any suggestions and assuaging of my fears will be appreciated.
