Hello! I noticed something about the way items work in Wizardry 6 while using Madgod's Cosmic Forge editor the other day, and I discovered something interesting, and I couldn't really find any posts that mention this (though I suppose I may not be looking hard enough ). So I figured I'd let people know about it.
Anyway,
I was trying to modify the various weapons so that I could use anything one-handed as a secondary weapon (I had a wonderful image of my Lord charging into battle with the Avenger in one hand, and a Blade Cuisinart in the other).
Like at least one other person has mentioned on this forum, I discovered that changing the flag for P to P/S didn't work. So then I tried recreating the Cutlass from a dagger, and then changing the attributes to match a Cutlass, hoping that that might trick the game into thinking that I could use the Cutlass. Long story short, at one point I didn't change the icon used for the weapon. When I loaded my game and looked at the weapon, lo and behold, in my character review screen (where you see the list of all your equipment) the cutlass' icon was still that of a cutlass. It didn't show a dagger icon unless I reviewed it.
That says to me, in Wizardry 6 at least, the information that the computer accesses for your equipment when reviewing a character is different from that accessed when reviewing an item. I think that's why changing the P flag to P/S doesn't cut it (heh, no pun intended). The game is probably checking this other unmodified database when deciding if you can equip a weapon in the secondary slot, so even though you've said in the Cosmic Forge game editor that a weapon should be equipable in Primary and Secondary, data that the game actually accesses still says the Cutlass is only equippable as a primary weapon.
I've also sent an e-mail to mad god about this, just thought I'd post it here too for anyone interested.
