"Serious problemo"
I write to you in desperation my friends.

My copy of Wizardry 8 has a crack in it.

On disk 1!

The more serious problem is I have no way to install the game on my new computer. Is there any way to get a copy of Disk 1? or am I doomed to buying it from E-bay for 60+ dollars?

Yours in desperation,
Etstral

Unfortunately...no one here will make an illegal copy of a game disk to send to you.

I do feel your pain...have you tried places other than Ebay?

Blessings~

Ack! Oh my, no.

You misunderstood me! I meant was there still a place where I could go (legally of course)where I could get a disk 1. I didn't know if there was still a branch of Sir-Tech somewhere that was open.

Amazon and Ebay seem to be my only options. Oh well, the games worth it, I'll just purchase another copy. Just a severe >.< moment.

... tech support on the Wiz8 web site. Section 1.19 is your exact situation and asks you to email: bugs@sir-tech.com

Someone might still be listening ....

This is a stupid question, but: If I purchase a game, and the company that I bought it from went out of business, and can no longer service its product or honor warranties, then is it illegal to copy the game? Who would assert the privilege? I've wondered this for years, as I had game and business software either bust a disc or develop a bug, and then you get the dreaded "we don't honor that" or "They ain't us..." defense. Seems rather hypocritical to try to play it both ways against the consumer.

5. "I agree ..."
.. but I think some company does still own the copyright, which would make it illegal. But if they don't provide support, it seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy that folks would acquire their replacement copies though other means.

6. "My solution..."
As it seemed pretty obvious to me that Sir-Tech was most likely going to go out of business my solution to partially overcoming that issue was to buy two copies of the game.

One copy I opened and have been using for years - the other box is still unopened. Should anything happen to my first copy I at least have one backup of original discs.

Another thing to remember is that although the software companies like to think it's completely illegal to ever make any copies it is actually *legal* to make 1 backup copy of any disc you purchase as a backup for your own personal use.

One thing a lot of people do is make one copy and always use the copies - so if something happens to the copied discs they just make another copy of the original media to use.

Cheers!

Always remember the Tleilaxu Epigram:
Here lies a toppled god
his fall was but a small one
we did but build his pedestal
a narrow and a tall one.
