devillock (Guest) (0 posts) Dec-18-04, 02:44 PM (Pacific) "help keeps freezing" hi there, i just bought wiz8 because my com is #####. i have xp,128 Mb ram, 32 m video, and a gig celeron processer. i should be well within the limits of the game but is still runs a little slow and keeps freezing. can someone tell me whats going on. my hunch is more ram but idk thanks   Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dragon2k (806 posts) Dec-18-04, 04:57 PM (Pacific) 1. "RE: help keeps freezing" 32 MB video might be integrated and shared, which means it's not as good as a dedicated video card. Shared means it shares your main RAM, meaning you actually have 96 MBs RAM plus 32 for video. then again, it might be a real card. as usual, update DirectX to at least 8.0, newest is 9.0c, and update your video card's drivers. to find out what video card you have, right click on the desktop -> properties -> Settings tab and it will be listed underneath the virtual monitor, with your monitor, as windows sees it. then, type that into google and you should find it rather easily. download the Driver for XP if possible, if not, Windows 2000 then.   Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

otter (Guest) (0 posts) Dec-18-04, 07:50 PM (Pacific) 2. "Not Cool" Well, sometimes W-8 responds better under an earlier Direct-X, like 6 or 7. Plus don't forget to set it once you get it by running the Setup>Autodetect>select a driver...you can see which ones you get to choose from. "RE: help keeps freezing" Just went from 256 to 512MB RAM last week and now for the first time I feel the game loads, runs and moves along the way it should. "RE: help keeps freezing" yes, RAM does XP systems a lot of good, 64 MBs is the bare minimum, 128 is recommended, I have 256 MBs and its pretty good, but I have a small 14" monitor so I only have the lowest res 640x480 available, so I don't need much (integrated Intel chipset; cheap emachines). so, 512 MBs is good for running less demanding 3D stuff at higher resolutions. to see if you could benefit from more RAM, simply run Wiz 8, and while in the actual 3D world, in maximized view mode, where you don't see the character portraits or the stuff on the bottum, and press Alt+tab or the Windows key, Alt-Enter or Ctrl-Escape (I forget exactly which one, but the others don't do anything anyway) to get back to windows desktop. Start -> Run -> DXdiag look under the RAM and Pagefile usage. RAM is how much RAM you have, and Pagefile is how much data your RAM couldn't hold (overflow, stored on your hard drive, and swapped in and out as needed). if it's like 128 MBs or so, definately add more. anything less than 50 MBs is fine, and you'd hardly see much of a difference, unless you like to multitask, with Winamp and a download manager running simutaneously, pherhaps. to get back, just click the taskbar button. Wiz 8 should continue as if nothing went on, if not, press escape to get the menu, wait a few seconds, and go back to the game   Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Also, make sure EVERYTHING (including explorer.exe) is closed before you play the game. You need every little bit you can get with that low amount of memory. To close explorer.exe, hit CTRL-ALT-DEL and go into the task manager and close that process. Then go to file and new task and browse for Wiz 8. Play and when done, go back to that spot and type in explorer and it'll re-initialize the process.   Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
