"Quickest ending"
Well after completeing Wiz 8 with a vanila party I thought i'd dust of my 12 year old copy of Wiz7 (CoDS) which I never got to complete previously and get to the end game so I could import a party to Wiz 8.

I am wondering what is the quickest route to completeing the game without all the side trips and quests.. which while fun aren't really necessary.

So far I have ...
Finished New City ... got the Dragon map from old city because I knew what to say to the Proffesor even though I haven't been Ratkin Ruins. (from my old notes scriblrd in the manual)

Finished Orkogre and got the Temple Map

Finished Murkhama . Got the Crystal(or maybe Sphinx..forget) map in same chest as Holy Work. Got the 5 Flower quest BUT havent beent to the mountains yet so am wondering if the ?Belt? imports into Wiz 8.
Have Wickum Power Globe

Completed Dane Tower ... have Serpent staff .. my most amazing weapon so far the Samurai is kicking but with Coil of Serpent and Poison Dagger in other hand (Stone from land of Dreams negates negative Regen).... I understand that you need the staff to get inside Dragon mountian.

Stopped at Nycalinth for quick teleport back to New City and picked up 1 Controller card.

And thats pretty much it.....went to abbey and the Legand Map was still there so have

Legend
Crystal
Dragon
Sphynx
Rebus edge
Controller card (Trang)
Coil of Serpent

WHAT else is there I need for a fast finish to import.. where should I go next

Are any of the side quests with Umpani , Terang , Ratkin Witches mountain Giant cave etcc Necessary

I know what buttons to push in the Marina to get to Ship

One day I'll do it all properly but for now want to have another go at Wiz 8 with an import party

My heroes are all L11/12

ULGAR Mook Samurai Coil of Serpent Poison Dagger
JanEtte Fairie Ninja Hands Feet
Rasputin Faeire Monk Hands Feet
Hylinda Dwarf Priest Spear +2
Naralda Elf Ranger Long Bow (Training for Elven Bow)
Karmela Gnome Bishop Staff of Blessing

The 1st three are the hitters .. NO class changes
Hylinda started as Priest till 50 in Divinity then Final switch
Naralda started as Alchemist till 50 then final switch
Karmela started as Alchemist till Death Cloud spell then switch

I know i could have done a lot more class switching but wanted to start as pure as possible for import ... Bishop or Valk cant hide for example.

The Wizardry series must surely be the GREATEST value for money ever ... multiple ways to play , multiple endings and 12 years later there are still people dropping in to these forums .

A little bit difficult to remember all things when playing W7 just in mind (don't have my notes and the walkthru at hand)

You need the rebus egg in a cave in the mountains to cross a cave-sea...you'll find an item that opens the Isle of Crypt.

Can't remember how critical a visit to the Witch Mountains is...and what you get from the witch there...

I think there are two more (?) maps that you need in the last level of the Crypt.
One is in the Funhouse in the Rattkin Ruins, one might be in the City of Sky above the Dragon mountains.
Did you catch the map that is hidden in the old graveyard at Nyctalinth?

I am quite certain I once realised that the only map you "physically" need is the Legend map. Reading the Crystal map will solve one of the puzzles, though. And then there is the Star map, which you find very late... it would be appropriate to have some use for it.

You will find a map amd Elysiad of Divinity in the Witch Mountains, but I can't remember any use for it.

Then again, I have several times played W7 only so far that everyone had most of their stats full and I had gathered items that would carry over to W8. (And Bane once only to the Dwarven Smith.)

Strictly speaking, you only need the Legend map piece for a puzzle in the Hall of Gorrors.

The Elysiad of Divinity is only used during the Dark Savant fight. It heals you, buffs you, and maybe resurrects you as well, though it'll be unlikely that fight will give you any trouble. Aside from the Sphinx map in the Witch Mountains, there's nothing there to get other than some XP.

There's nothing you particularly need from Ukpyr, but there is an item you get in the Ukpyr mountains/cave there you need later.

You don't need anything from the Rattkin Ruins, either, to complete the game, I want to say. I faintly recall beating the game before I figured out how to get into the town.

There's also the Forbidden Zone access code you'll need to get from Nyctalinth, if you didn't get that already.

You'll also need items from the City of Sky and the Mandolian Isles. It doesn't particularly matter, to my understanding, whether or not you tell Vi you found a spaceship.

Wait, I'm not sure what you mean by "quickest ending":

1. Fastest completion of CODS.

-- or --

2. Fastest way to get a CODS party that you can "import" to W8.

They are not the same thing UNLESS you want to import with the T'Rang or Umpani.

If you just want an import party that starts on the Monastery beach, you can have it in less than a minute: form your CODS party, save, copy into W8, and start W8.

. . . you won't have much in the way of imported skills and equipment, but XP and spells are apparently hard-coded without regard to the actual character levels, and the attribute levels are only nominally influenced by the CODS attribute levels.
