"Umpani and the death"
Sorry for the dramatic name, just couldn't find another one...

As I mentioned in another thread almost all NPCs in my CoDS game are dead, and i didn't have much fun (or touble) with them at all.
Just two questions about it:

I used the Forge-Editor to at least see the frustrating list of passed-away-guys - why is Yamo "alive"? (he also is when I use a "find person" spell)
He should be dead because of the attack on Ukpyr (?)

As i wanted to import the party to Wiz8 - if Rodan Lewarx was killed in CoDS will there be "another" Rodan in Wiz8?

greetings from a Dandiphoot

It's a fine thread name. ;)

I don't know any answer to your first question. But as for Rodan...he will be alive in Wiz8 either way. If you killed him in Wiz7 then he will make some comment in Wiz8 about you being the scum who "left him for dead" back on Guardia. However, since he is in a bit of a jam in Wiz8 when you meet, he is willing to forgive all if you do what he wants now. Even if you left him alive in Wiz7, he doesn't appreciate it very much in Wiz8. He's pretty much in a bad mood either way - though it is a bit worse if you'd killed him.

In any case, he'll work with you in Wiz8 no matter what you did to him in Wiz7. However, if you've already alienated the Umpani race in Wiz8 when you meet Rodan, then it seems he will not work with you.

Yamo is alive because you, as the player, did not kill him. No other NPC can kill him as far as I am aware. If you fight him in an actual fight, he does not drop the Thermal Pineapple, so you're in a situation where you can either kill Yamo or kill H'Jenn Ra, but not both. Note that if you kill Yamo, the base never gets bombed because he's not there for the script to trigger, even if you were on the step for it and you decided not to present your orders to farm the Umpani for lots and lots of XP to the point where they actually become hostile. (/guilty)

It's also entirely possible that when I played, my copy of CODS was buggy...but I don't think that was the case.

Oh, and if you wanted to try fighting Barlone, if Ratsputin or Mick the Pick are still alive after you meet him, just don't pay your dues. Dong fus and Death Stars a plenty, oh my!

Oh yes, with one set of characters I kept repeatedly fighting the Umpani/Helazoid guards outside of Yamo's Building - great for gaining experience points without being too fatality foolish. Back off a step and then fight them again. It's unfortunate Yamo doesn't drop the Thermal Pineapple when you kill him, so I didn't do it with any groups that could ally with the Umpani. This group that imported from Bane and started with the T'Rang could never get an opportunity to ally with Umpani, so it was worth it for them. Anyone know if it's possible to get a group who starts with the T'Rang to get Umpani allies?

I think I may have fought Barlone once. I seem to remember that ending very badly for me. Once I got to his stash (after paying him), I always prefered that option anyway. After playing that I'd actually be disappointed if Ratsputin was dead before I was ready to pay him and get in past Barlone.

Wiz7 is just the BEST game ever! Though I loved 5, 6 & 8, too.

Is there any advantage in paying either Rasputin or Mick when they ask for some donations? Is it "worth" to keep the Rakuza befriended?

I never came to that point in any w7 campaign i played as both were/are dead, and on the other hand there was no way back to the Rattkin Ruins for me. I heard that Barlone sometimes leaves some treasures for some gold when they (probably) move to board the T'Rang ship.

Paying your dues I think can open up the option to get the treasure offered, but I'm not sure as I very rarely get to that point. Other than the one time I didn't pay my dues, I usually get told by Barlone that he may have something for me later, then get kicked out.

6. "RE: Worth Paying Barlone?"
Worth it? Well, if you've never played that way before, yes, I'd suggest trying it once. I don't ever remember Mick the Pick asking me for money, probably because he dies early, it seems. Ratsputin's always been the one. Unlike you, I've had more games where Ratsputin has survived than died.

In any case, if he asks you, yes pay him and then leave that area rather quickly. (He can demand money several times in the same area. Sometimes you pay him, move two steps & he comes back and demands more. I don't know for sure, but I assume that any refusal disengages Barlone from being willing to make you an offer.)

If you then pay Barlone, you can get a fair amount of decent stuff - but he asks for a LOT. I'd say try it once and see what you think.

7. "RE: Worth Paying Barlone?"
Seems that i'll have to start once more to experience that plot.

I have the feeling that i once made this deal in one game, but i don't remember it exactly - could be an imagination.

8. "RE: Worth Paying Barlone?"
If you pay your dues to Ratsputin then pay off Barlone, he'll throw in a very nice bonus item "for free"... which is the only justification for dumping 40,000 gold, as there's good items in the treasure room but not really worth it. Otherwise you can tell Rats to kiss off and fight Barlone, where if you should win you can get the items yourself. Barlone disappears forever anyway if you pay him, and you can bribe and truce with Bertie later on if you want to buy good arrows or death stars later on.
