"Journey Map Stolen"
I think Blienmeis stole my Map. Now he's dead. I got the Cane of Corpus, but no map back. Is there any way to get another one?

1. "RE: Journey Map Stolen"
There are only three places to get the Journey Map Kit. The first is provided for free upon starting the game.

The second is from the chest sitting on the edge of the Sea of Sorrows, near the place a "virgin" party starts the game (western exit of New City and through the forest).

The last, ironically, is to buy one off of Blienmeis. He sells them in his usual inventory some of the time.

If he steals something from you, the game counts it as if the item is destroyed. Killing Blienmeis will not recover your stolen property; only a loaded game will do that.

At this point, if you don't still have the beginner map kit and/or you lost/sold the map kit near the sea, then the only way to get another is to edit one in.

If it makes you feel any better, Blienmeis once stole the Helazoid Banner from me, and I was unable to get the Eagle Eye skill later on because of it.

Chris

P.S. You can actually fight Blienmeis twice. If you killed him in his little alcove outside the Ruins, you can "force" the Ratskell's Thieves Guild door open and fight him once more. You won't get another map kit from this, but it might make you feel better.

Damn !!! I couldn't get him to sell anything to me, so I put the game on EASY and killed him, thinking I'd get the map back. I did save before the fight. However, I still can't get him to trade with me. I even gave him $50,000 once just to see. Obviously, he was pleased, but he still left, ha ha !!!
I'm not sure I can figure out how to edit one in using DOSBOX. I'm not the brightest when it comes to that. Do you know of a good editor that I could try?
Thanks for all your help Chris.

Larry

All right, time for some serious negotiations!

If you're playing Wizgold, which is probably not the case if you're using Dosbox, you can most certainly trade with Blienmeis after enough negotation. There are three stages of NPC likeitude:

Stage 1 - Truce, Fight, Run. The NPC is royally pissed, and wants your head.
Stage 2 - Truce, Spell, Use, Fight, Run, etc... The NPC is ambivalent, and will spill his/her guts and items with a little persuasion.
Stage 3 - Truce becomes Talk. The NPC likes you, and will trade with you.

Every "Pleased" response makes the NPC like you better, i.e. have a good chance to move up a stage. "Angry," of course, gives a chance of moving down, and "Reserved" is neutral. At any time during negotiations, the NPC may decide to leave, or even attack you.

I had a Stage 1 Belcanzor on my hands one time. I gave him gold, charmed him and hit the Peace button. He "looked pleased" then attacked me, because he hated me so much.

In your case, when Blienmeis leaves, you should move out of the room, then walk back in and Peace with him some more. Making good use of saving when pleased, loading when angry, Blienmeis should eventually warm up enough to your party to trade with them.

Good luck!
Chris

He always steals an item when he hugs you. I lost my Thermal Pineapple this way once, and didn't realize it until far too late to restore my game. Now I drop everything before I give him some coins.

I'm with sphynx. The only thing that little rat gets from me is a sack of gold and some bite daggers, because the rest of my junk is either being held tightly in the equip slot, or sitting on the floor a few feet away.

Mad god, it's noticeable when you're anal about your inventory like I am and have everything lined up 1,2,3,4 etc...

Suddenly, when I check my inventory after Blienmeis, there's a giant gaping hole where my Helazoid Banner was! That fink!

Furthermore, the game itself gives you a hint: (After giving Blienmeis money and he hugs you) "After this good deed you feel somewhat lighter" - or something like that.

Heh, Never noticed it.
Cool thing! I wonder what item has he stolen from me?

Here is what the game is saying:

The old blind Rattkin embraces you, patting you on the back, and exclaims,...

May your generous souls be equally rewarded!

A sudden pleasant sensation comes over you, the good feeling that aspires from assisting others in need, and you are left basking with a tingling lightness of being...

I don't know about Gold, but in DOS CODS if your "back pocket" (bag inventory) is empty, he won't take anything. And what he takes is usually the last (bottom-right-most) in the stack.

Sheesh, I lost a Thermal Pineapple from that little blind twirp before and didn't even notice it was gone until I got around to trying to kill the T'rang Queen. Had no way to go back to a previous save nor had I wanted to since it was at least a 2+ hour penalty in my game play. I just went ahead and edited it back in. With two charges, so that I could at least use it to make my way through, and then use it again in some random fight again in the future, for my pain and suffering of course.

AHA! I had purchased a Featherweight potion at the one rat's shop (don't remember his name), and it turns out later that a Featherweight potion dropped as a result of combat elsewhere, or maybe it was from a chest, I don't remember. In any case, other than the Funhouse scenario where it's useful to have it, I didn't actually know whether it might reduce damage from falling or not. I could have SWORN I had a second Featherweight potion. It's only now that I see where it may have disappeared to...
