"Ending"
Stored lots of stuff (studded hauberks etc.)near "sacrament" fountain ready to equip for Wiz8.
My question is when is the best time to equip this stuff?
If IRC you can go back to New City for one of the endings.
How do you work this and is there a convenient time to equip your weaker stuff without getting mashed near the end of the game?
Thanks for any help.

1. "No Ending Required"
You can import to W-8 without any ending at all. Just equip all the stuff you think you want, save and quit, and move that save into the W-8 import folder in the saves folder. This will start you on the Monastery beach, just like the "girl" ending would.

2. "RE: Ending EXTREME WARNING"
DO NOT transfer a team with a DEAD team member. I did it one time (they died in the final battle) and when I resurrected them at Mt Gigas, she was a no-class no-race who could equip nothing. When she promoted, the game went nuts so I reloaded. That savegame had a severe case of the freezy-twitchies - that game and any other !!!

So I reinstalled the game and the freezy-twitchies continued. When I dragged that savegame out of the folder and restarted, the other savegames were normal again.

Some header information is loaded from every savegame when you get to the "load game" screen. The one corrupt game overlaid some program code.

The cheap armor can be a problem if it lets someone die at the New City Savant Station. Be sure to resurrect during battle.

Some time this weekend I will transfer a new team from 7 to 8. I might just go with Phoonzang's ship in City of Sky to avoid that problem. I plan on bringing lots of potions, amulets and spare armor and bows. Those usually transfer.

3. "Import List"
Check Flamestryke's site, she's got Scary's and others' work on what you can import, and how much of it. Some nice surprises, and some sad news, but if you want to optimise your import, check it out! (hit the Import Index on the left there.)

4. "RE: Import List"
Thanks folks, great replies,as always on this board.
I'm thinking then, that just before final battle,I equip with what I hope to import,do a specific save ready for import and then go to final battle with best stuff.
Would I miss out on anything much if I import party that hasn't fought final battle?
PS Flamestryke - What a great site!!

5. "Where You Start"
If you choose the "Umpani" ending, that's about the best place to start in W-8. Especially if you're planning on picking pockets. Well, really, even starting with the T'rang--either one gives you pretty fast access to the other. The "girl" ending and no ending at all land you in the same place as starting from scratch, and the "globe" ending doesn't allow you into W-8 at all.

Dang, i'm gonna have to register so i can edit my posts:
If you don't fight the final battle is what i mean by no ending at all, and you start in the same place, but you have the 20% skills and 2500 Gold, and XP for 5 levels like any other successful ending.

7. "My weekend transfer"
Eventually went well enough on the third transfer. No jewelry transferred. Most of the armor got through, except the Crusaders Helms and the Elven Bow. Bow wouldn't transfer when carried by an elven Monk or an elven Ranger. Very odd.

I chose the "help the T'rang" ending, since all my good armor was in Thesminster Abbey and the Umpani don't cast spells like the Trang Wisers. Less chance of dying. So I arrived at Martens Bluff in Ironman mode.

A funny thing happened when my level 7 team squashed Raven Rapax. I got the Bushido Blade on the first try. Didn't somebody prove that the level sensor wouldn't hand out a Bushido Blade if your level was too low ? I had another Ironman team that got the Light Sword on the first try too. Coincidence ?

We've researched import rules pretty thoroughly and posted the rules on both W8 bulletin boards (here and Vault Network), as well as on Lana's site. The Elven Bow and Crusaders Heml both import. If they did not in your case, the most likely explanation is the characters were carrying other superlative items. What else were they packing?

I'm on shakier ground here: I thought research (by others) had concluded that "drops" were not level sensored, only chests (and not even all of those).

9. "Level Sensor"
Flamestryke has all the Level Sensor info. Just check the "drop" section. Mad God has level sensor info in his editor; check the "loot" section. Raven has no sensor.

11. "RE: Level Sensor"
I too have just imported a party to Wiz8.
Had elven bow equipped to elf ranger, only other special item he had was chamail doublet +2 but bow did not transfer.
On the other hand both priest and mage(a faerie)had stun rods in their inventories and both transferred.
Also had great bow equipped to samurai but that did not transfer either.
Did much reading on this site and on Flamestryke's and thought I understood import rules but this seems odd to me.

12. "RE: Level Sensor"
Chamail armor (upper or lower) and the Elven Bow are both class "3" items for importing, meaning that each character can only import one such item. That is why your Elven Bow did not import. The Great Bow is also a class "3" item, so I suspect your samurai was carrying another such item, as well. Stun Rods are class "2" items. Each character can import up to two class "2" items.

13. "RE: Level Sensor"
I transferred two full set of chamail+2 AND a Great Bow, Enchanted Bow, l5 Peacemakers and 60+ Mystic Arrows. I was pushing the limits and the limits pushed back. I also tried to transfer Fang, Blade Cuisinart, Vorpal Blade, Sword of Hearts and Estoc De Olivia. I got three wakizashi's.

I could transfer them again, downgrade the Chamail to studded hauberk/stud chassis but I think I'll take what I've got.

DOH! OK,it's official, dumbo mistake! Thanks,Scary, should have realised chamail would prevent elven bow transferring,I'd read info on importing often enough!
Moral, only read whilst brain in gear!

15. "Adding Character After Import"
Here's an interesting discovery for you:
If you import a party of fewer than six, you can hit "Return" to add the top character from your W-8 new char list (just that one, no more). This is kinda handy, as you can optimise some classes better as new. And Gadgeteers are a lot better when they start life as such.
