"Disappearing Items"
Hey everyone, this is my first time posting to these forums.

I am playing through CoDS with a solo faerie ninja, and obviously inventory space is a significant issue when doing this. I recently returned from a long (and rewarding) clearing of Dionysceus to find that my Helazoid Banner and Thermal Pineapple had disappeared from the space around the Abbey in New City where I had left them. It is my understanding from searching these forums that items typically do not disappear when dropped, and I am at a loss to explain this. The way I see it, I have a few options:

1) Lose 6-8 hours of play time and redo Dionysceus from my savebefore I started it, in which I still have the Pineapple and the Banner.
2) Use an item editor to edit these items into my inventory.
3) Attempt to find the two items elsewhere on the ground or in the hands of wandering NPC's.

Two questions: Has anyone had a similar experience than this? And if so, what is the likelihood that these items are in the hands of NPC's (as opposed to gone forever)?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

bad news, my friend, for those items are lost forever, since NPCs don't pick up dropped items. also, you have certainly dropped a ton of items, over 100, just in New City. after that, any more dropped items will basically replace the oldest one you dropped, First in, First out. you can, however, drop them in another map, like downstairs, or the Starter dungeon fountain, or anywhere else where you get a "loading map, please wait", and your automap changes (like when you exit new city). you can store around 120 items in each Map.
so, in reality, you have 2 options, either use a backup save, or edit the items in. a third option, is to have someone here edit one in for you. your choice.

Follow-up:

I downloaded Mad God's editor and viewed my save using his save viewer. Those items are indeed gone. However, I don't think it's because of the number or items dropped in any given area...there are only 127 items dropped total anywhere in the game. However, this number seems suspicious, and my guess is that my version of CoDS is only prepared to store 0-127 dropped items anywhere in the game (who knows). I'm gonna edit them in when I need them.

127 = maximum(unsigned byte).
I don't remember really, but I think that dropped items are world-wide, not map-wide....

I did some research years ago. My count was 118 (I suspect I missed a few items in New City) but there seemed to be an independent count outside of New City. Stuff in New City dis not disappear when I dropped outside the city.

I am testing that in my current game. I have some stuff stacked up in the passage from New City to Starter Forest.

The deleting is smart. It never deletes "you need this" items, only items with a price.

I've often wondered about that: "losing" the essential items, although I have thought of it from the perspective of doing it on purpose: I understand that Bleinmeis will pickpocket the party if they to to pp him, and I'm just curious whether we could get him to pp the *Astral Dominae*
(Just imagine your later conversation with the DS: "Really, sir, we'd love to give it to you, but . . .)
