"Crash During Ending Sequence"
Using Wizardry Gold, I am unable to save my game for export (for Wizardry 8) during the ending sequences. Before being asked to save, the program immediately crashes. The only time I'm able to save my party at all was after deciding to keep the globe and that, of course, is not a playable import for Wizardry 8; a rather cruel joke that one. The "girl", "T'rang" and "Umpani" decisions all result in crashes. Extremely frustrating to say the least.

I have attempted to even run the original Wizardry 7 via Dosbox but to no effect.

Is there any sort of fix or patch that addresses this problem for Wizardry 7 Gold?

Thanks in advance.

1. "Not to worry (too much)"
Any WIzardry 7 games, complete or not (even just a party starting out, without any battles) can be imported into Wiz 8. The only thing that really matters is if you chose an ending path or alignment, that will affect where you start your imported game.

That's true. But won't I miss out on some nifty alternate beginning sequences as a result?

I'm hoping for some well deserved loving from vi domina after grudgingly giving up the globe for her

Is there a way to edit a savegame file to include a specific path taken perhaps?

3. "Only 4 starting points, right?"

Either:
1) you are a virgin team (not an import)
2) import with no alliance (start at monastery)
3) import aligned with T'rang
4) import aligned with Umpani

For 2, 3 & 4, it does not matter if you completed the game or not ... unless I am wrong, and Vi will either be with you or not depending on the ending you chose ... I don't think that is the case though.

So I take it there is no way to manually edit a save game file to include the specific ending?

I have save games just before the phoozang ship and the new city town where the t'rang and umpani burst in fighting.

If I can't edit the save game file, I know that the save game files between wiz gold and wizardry for DOS are interchangable (just change the extention) so if anyone has the time they could save different variations of the ending for me using my saved games. Would be most appreciated.

7. "One could edit ..."
.. it would take quite a while to figure out which byte(s) control that ... or maybe Mad God's editor already has that capability ... dunno.

4. ""Girl" is all you get?"
There's no difference in the W-8 start between the "Girl" ending and importing a save that didn't finish.
I dunno about editing your save to cone out with the Umps or T'Rang; i had some that i finished there to see what happens to the import. The best one is to start on Dominus at the Ump camp, better by far than any other ending, especially if you're picking pockets. Starting at Marten's Bluff doesn't work very well, except maybe that you have access right away to the T'Rangaporter, but once again, if you PP you can get that at the Ump camp, too...

I've had the same problem, but one was kind enough to state "the Wizardry Gold CD must be in the CD drive ... as the ending sequences are on the disk"
so, make sure the disk is in the drive, even if you did a full install, and don't normally use the CD.
