let's take Nuclear Blast, as an example. Nuclear Blast is a Level 7 mage spell, however, you can learn it at any time your Thaumaturgy is 98 (I think that's the point at which the spell becomes learnable) however, you will need to be at level 8, and have the Fire Spell Points to cast it (not really a problem since you do gain 12 points when you learn it), in order to cast it at level 2 power level. at level 9, you can cast it at level 3, and so on. in short, your magic user just isn't at high enough level, and you probably put so many Acedemia points into it, as well as the little bonus automatically added to the primary skill (mage-thaumaturgy), that you were able to learn the spell quicker than was intended. another thing, is that you may haev overlooked the amount of spell points needed to cast it at higher levels. which means, if you class change, your mage turned Samurai (example), can cast Nuclear Blast, but only at level 1, until his/her Samurai level gets to 8, then s/he can cast level 2 Nuclear Blast spell.
