"Party won't heal while resting"
I've come across an interesting but annoying problem. When I camp my party, magic and stamina replentish themselves, but my characters' HP stay the same. It takes 3 rests just to go up one or two hit points. Does anyone have any ideas?

I have already replaced the two scenario.* files (just because someone else had done it for their problem), but it didn't work. Then I replaced all the DSAVANT files, but no effect. I started new games too.

ideas?

Thanks,
Pischle

Pischle,

It's my understanding that your game is working properly. The only way to replace health quickly is through spells and fountains. If you are not near a fountain, your second best bet is to use your heal spells, rest to get some magic points back, then keep casting more spells as needed. I guess the game is meant to mimic life a bit: Cuts don't heal overnight, but stamina does. Magic, of course, is another matter...

Hey, good luck and enjoy!
A. J.

I've been playing this game for several years. I just created a new party. My mage has 6 HP. In a battle he got down to 1 HP. After resting twice without interuption, he hadn't increased in hit points. This is not normal.

Thanks,
Pischle

3. "Check you gear"
Though it is unlikely so early in the game, perhaps you have a neg-regen item on your Mage. (did you use an editor?)

Question: will a -1 regen item balance the effect of resting or will it drop you down? Is there such a thing as a -.5 regen item? (or am I being silly?)

4. "RE: Check you gear"
I have not used an editor (although I have wished from time to time that I had just for the fun of it). No my party is "au natural" except they aren't naked. Also, I haven't equiped anything I haven't been able to assay.

Thanks,
Pischle

5. "What about Moslo?"
If you are using it, maybe change your setting. If you are not using maybe it needs it .... when you start missing clock cycles (or getting to many of them), no telling what can happen.

I didn't think of that. I had not been using it, but when I ran it (using the default DSAVANT.BAT file) it says that it is not needed. I am running this on a 486 DX2 66. I bought a used one so I could play wizardry without the hassles of windows and boot disks etc.

Thanks,

7. "Maybe re-install?"
Did resting ever work on this PC .... what has changed since then? If you need to (or try) reinstalling, just save off the roster (pcfile.dbs, I think) and your saved game files.

If things work after a reinstall, then try putting your files back in (roster and saved games).

I copied the files in the DSAVANT directory from the CD back to the hard drive and overwrote any files currently there. No effect.

In response to another comment, Yes this used to work normally.

Sanity check - Am I correct that an 8 hour rest should be healing more than1 - 2 HP?

Thanks,
Pischle

actually, 1-2 hp, is normal, especially at low levels with low Vitality, with low HP classes.
i.e. a level 1 mage with 6 vitality will regenerate HP very slowly, even several complete resting sessions may not help.
You are only as brave as the challenges you take on

I understand what you mean, but my level 7 fighter with 15 vitality still gains only 1 HP in an 8 hour rest.

12. "Wow .. really?"
Well, after cleaning part of the house yesterday, I FINALLY found my UWA CD and installed Gold to play (had the itch for while).

Apparently, it has been FOREVER since I played, and thought there was something wrong with the game, since my characters are not healing when they rest.

I guess Wiz 8 spoiled me so much I forgot about this aspect of 7 ... guess I need to have someone in the party with a healing spell, if I want to see level 2

Thank you forum, for providing the answer (that I used to know) ...
