"skills & dual classing"
Hello
I know that when you change class you can't allocate your points to skills which your new class doesn't have (the old class ones are "blocked"). The question is do these blocked skills still increase due to practise?
I have experimented by switching my fighters to rogues for one round in order to get stealth but I haven't seen any improvement
due to practise since I've changed back and it's not like you wouldn't get lots of practise in combat.
I also had Vi change to rogue in order to get stealth and while she was a rogue I bought her cause wounds and she couldn't learn
it. Does this mean that if I change a spell caster to a non-spellcaster I'm stuck with only the current spells my character has and can't learn any more unless I change back?
If what I think is true and you can't improve anything that doesn't overlap with the new class at all (very brutal class change) well then well I'm really disappointed.
What kind of "tricks" and strategies are there to minimize this? and well I'm at it what other skills are easy to train (and how?) like lock picking by sitting in front of an impossible lock and bard charming NPCs to raise music.
Feel free to mention any dual classing advice. It would be nice to have all this knowledge in one place.
Thanks

I havent done much class switching but if I remember right they will not go up with practice. They will remain at their static number until you switch them back to a class that has that skill.

And you're right about switching magic to non-magic.. the magic skills remain where they are and you can't learn new spells.

My advice about dual-classing - if you want to do it do it only once and then by level 5 - unless you want to play a super long game.

an Alchemist -> Ninja is a good choice (first level up, change class to ninja), as you get 2 spells immediately, and only are behind 1 level afterwards.

a Ninja -> Ranger is also a good choice, Melee and Ranged Criticals, +Stealth, and armor.

don't know of Alchemist -> Ninja -> Ranger, though...

3. "No advancing closed skills"
Nope, no amount of practice will advance a skill that is closed to your current class.

Hello
When I first create my characters I create them with the class I want them to be overall. However I don't really like classed role-playing much and see my characters with other skills which, painfully obvious now, their class won't allow. I think it's not unreasonable to try to make a stealthy fighter or mage or whatever if that's how I see the character and I would like them to be good at it.
I've heard others say if you are going to change class do so early and here is my thinking. If I where to change classes early and I only wanted to do it for one level then I'd like to get alot of practise and should therefor do it in the mid levels say 15-17 when it starts to take a longer time to go up levels. If I where to do it early then I'd end up leveling befor I get much practise and I don't like the idea of not leveling when I can. It's probably just me but not leveling when I can feels wrong. Will it make the game easier or harder? Will having characters level from 3rd to 6th take away the enjoyment/experience of playing level 4 characters? Just feels wrong.

you don't have to take a level up when it is available. remember how you level up? you click the little icon.
the level ups can wait. many people practice the Stealth or alchemy, getting those up to 100, and then level up to level 2, and class change to Ninja or their preferred class. after which, they can gain 2 levels or more, if they desire (click the Cancel on the second level up screen)

6. "Saving level ups can have issues"
Some folks who do this (save their level ups) experience tougher than average monsters, especially in the arnika ara. For instance, your level "7" party, that have only taken 4 level ups, might run into level 22 savant troopers.

If you want a stealth mage, why not start off as a monk, building both spell and stealth skills, then switch to mage?

Hi
Thanks for all the advice. It's not really cheating but some might consider it that so if you don't like cheating then don't read the rest of what I'm going to say. I've been reading through forums(took a long time to find) and found a way to only use up one level to fully train stealth. What you do is change class to something with stealth and find a group of easy monsters that only use missiles, equipe a shield and defend. Then you just put it in continuous mode and wait, and wait, and wait. Eventually you will practise up stealth to 100. I have six characters and it took me the whole day. It's faster with less characters. You also practise shield at the same time. I chose rogue but thinking back something might have been better. Perhaps one of the other classes with stealth could train something else at the same time. I'm not familiar with the other hybrid classes.

as we've stated before, you DO have control over when your characters level up. so, you get, lets say, 1 million XP for your first level guys, through a very lucky battle, afterwards, they can still be level 1, except they are eligable for level 2 (and level 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc; with same premise, you decide when to take individual level ups)
Resist the urge to click that level up icon, and you will see
this way, you don't have to worry about killing the monsters too fast, or them running away.
