"speed patch"
I double click for patch to kick in, then start game. I have read to start game then patch; but this is imposible without exit of game. The patch speed up for battle doesn't seem to work. Any advice for patch to work? Also, I'm stuck in marten's bluff trying to get to those stairs for martin's idol. Any help is appreciated.

1. "Which patch?"
I don't know of any speed patch, other than for Wizardy 7. Which patch are you trying to apply (identify it by number, like 1.2.4).

2. "RE: Which patch?"
Its not a patch. It is called Wiz8fast.zip. It will speed up combat by a lot. you can set it for up to 125 instead of 5x). This only affects the speed that monsters actually move. They just zip into place. It is nice after you have played a couple of times. I don't remember where i got it from. I have it if you want me to email it to you Rick.

3. "RE: Which patch?"
It was wiz8fast.zip. As far as I can tell, I don't see any faster movement. I spent 45 mins. on one battle. I thought maybe I wasn't using the wiz8fast. zip the right way. I put the wiz8fast as high as it will go, (125x) and in the game I got it as high as it will go. (5x). Am I doing something wrong, or maybe it is working and still seems slow.

That exe only directly modify Wiz8.CFG to set the movement speed to the setting you set in that program.

As told in other post, other action other then Mod / NPC movement will not be affected.

If you set again in the Game options to 5X, it will return to 5X rather then the setting you set in that exe so you wont see any different from before.

4. "This patch!"
Here's a link where you can download the tool. Haven't tried the tool myself:

5. "Oh, that "patch""
Not really a patch, but a hack. It did not seem to work for me either, at first. I tried it again and now see what it does ... I was expectign a dramatic difference going from 5x to 625x on monster movement speed ... it is not.

It only affects when monsters are moving their physical location, not their combat actions/animations. So, if a piercer modai was going to charge you at 5x, he gets there in a blink of an eye at 625x.

Though this will speed up a bit, most of the time still passes the same as they swing, I attack, they reel back, ....

Still haven't tried the tool, but faster movement should help in those battles against dozens of monsters which charge you one after the other (juggernauts for example)... or in Arnika, when ten patrolling higardi charge the last bandit, who has 15 HP left... or when the last plant chooses to run away and you decide to let it get away (thus ending the combat four rounds later)... or when in the rapax rift a combat is started, though the monsters can't reach you and start to retreat in their dozens... or... or...
