"Mage to Bishop is it worth the change?"

Anyone out there has change a mage to a bishop? Izzit worth it?
I have a lev11 mage that doing well but I keep having the thought of changing him into a Bishop for the extra special abilities (remove curse).

But from what I know from Wizardry7 the exp/levl for Bishop is much greater than the Mage (take far longer to level) so I am not sure it any good to change him now.

Any Idea/suggestions?

Btw anyone know this 5% Elemental bonus that mage has is it for every level up? (5 + 5 + 5 etc?)

In my opinon, it is a bad idea to change classes period.

You will end up with a half a$$ mage/bishop in the end.

I think that changing classes is fine if you do it early. Have a priest for the first few levels, then turn him into a bishop. It pays off greatly in that you have a jump start on your priestlihood. When you get up to 10th level or so, it seems that you lose out on your powers when switching, and your bishop will never be that good... as he's only going to get 1st and second level spells to use on 10th level monsters.

However, Once your character has maxed out his wizardry skill and gotten all the spells he can, why not change him to a psionic or alchemist? You lose the 25% bonus in wizardry, however you're already at 100, so it's not that big a loss. I don't know whether you can still increase your realm skills from casting mage spells, but if you can, then your character will still develop and will get to use all the mage spells he could cast before. Plus, the base magic classes go up quickly in level. Then if you decide that you want to have your character become a bishop and expand, switch to a bishop later.

i figured out that job channging isnt that nice in wiz8. i like the job system in wiz8 more than in 7 or 6 but it seems not to be worth it. unfurtunately i changed my gadgeteer into a ranger and later into bard. now he is a lvl5/5/5 guy and can neither play music nor use nice gadgets. i think i leave him as ranger now and will never touch the jobs of my other 5 chars.

i woulnd change the mage into bishop if i was you. perhaps wait until the mage has 100 wizardry skill and then change. he should be able to take all spells then, but check out if you can spell them in higher powerlevels after classchange since in part 7 a fresh made bishop lvl 1 couldnt spell the nuclear balast lvl 7

LAST EDITED ON Dec-07-01 AT 12:11 PM (Pacific)

Go ahead and change him you don't lose anything mage-wise,
you still have all the mage capabilities you had before the change, except you do not have the 25% bonus to the mage skill.
And once a bishop you can still get the best mage spells by level 18(all together 7 bishop +11 mage), plus you will now be able to begin learning priest, psionic and alchemy spells starting at level 1.

Some posted a more thourough answer to this question.

So for a mild spoiler(in that it gives some info on how the game works and not an ingame event)

Thanx lots guys.

I think I will stick to mage until I have Max out Wizardry.

My Mage was a Psionic in Wiz7 and changed to mage to get more offensive spells.

Sad that I lost all my psionic spells when I port over to Wiz8. Use to love those Psionic Blasts <sigh> guess the developer never factored in this aspect. (retaining spells from dual classes char).
