"Small parties at the Cosmic Circle"
Has anyone noticed any differences in how the fight goes (with the DS) when you have a party of only a few? This is the first time I am here with less than 6 or 7, only 4 this trip (my three and RFS-81).

Never before have I seen Bela get taken out, but with this party, out of 4 or 5 failed attempts, the DS has aced him 3 times (always in less than 3 rounds), with the chroma glove.

I suppose the odds of Bela getting targeted are higher, since I have brought fewer to the party, but I have seen one other oddity: my summoned elementals are useless against the DS. I can't recall for sure, but I would have sworn they could (especially at the elemental lord level) at least scratch the DS in past experiences.

Even with armor melt, the only one that can consistenlty hit the DS is my level 25 female mook fighter, and then only when she has superman in effect. And since she loses a good 100+ points to every chroma glove hit, she doesn't last long enough to take the big guy down.

I am about ready to just say "if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em" (then go start a better, more worthy, team ).

Was thinking of a party of 4 next time. What do you have other than a fighter?

I was planning a monk because haven't played one yet and a bard because I have to have a bard. My current IM party has no bard and I miss having her. Not sure about the other two pcs yet.

2. "Ninja and Mage"
The fighter was to get over the inital hump, but has proven to be a major player (though the mage has probably 5 times the kills, due to area and mass effect spells).

I think I failed in raising the Ninja correctly ... should have stuck with one weapon discipline (no, not for the cane, this one is a hobbit). I switched to nunchucks as soon as I could, but that was about the time I started trying to practice and build more spells ... then later switched back to swords and daggers ... end result is a mediocre fighter and spell caster.

As it stands, my mage is next to useless (in the CC), aside from his items used to cast magic screen. The ninja can do nothing to affect the DS and RFS-81 is of little help (hits him one of every 4 or 5 tries).

I think I will stick with full parties from now on ... too much other useless junk to deal with w/o a gadgeteer and/or bard in the game.

Though I have been toying with the idea of a 4, 5, or 6 fighter party

3. "RE: Ninja and Mage"
This is interesting. I had no problem with the DS. My gadgeteer paralized him in the second round with a medusa stone. It was just a matter of bashing away after that. Took two more rounds. I guess I was just lucky. RFS hitt for 100+ damage in the first two rounds and then for 200+ in the next two.

4. "The party just got smaller ...."
Well, I have never been one to quit, so I chose the "write in the book" ending, in lieu of the others this time ... took about 5 rounds, Bela made it as did all my party ... one less Dark Savant in the world

p.s. My elemental fire lord finally got one hit in (for 138), once the DS was napping from a love tap with a giant's sword

5. "And the outcome more curious"
I went ahead and played the "can't beat 'em, join 'em" ending to see how it went (and because my five year old wanted to play ... I figured it was an easy battle) and it was odd ... Bela who (in the other endings) could not last 2-3 rounds against the DS and his chroma glove attack (taking 60-70 damage each shot, almost always hitting) was this time impervious to it ... not a scratch form the chroma glove attack (I think 3 rounds of 5).

Maybe the cosmic lords are still around, playing a varying hand in the outcome, based on your selected course of action ...
