His idol is located in one of the southern towers of Marten's Bluff along with some goodies and a useful (if there's a Bard in your party) insturment. "The other secret passage" When you come up in Lower Martens bluff, on the other side (through the trang area), you pass through a room with a pillar that spits bolts in 4 directions. Beyond that room is a switch. That switch drops the metal gate (directly across from the glass doors) that allows you to go upstairs to get the idol.
