"Importing from Wiz 7"
Does anyone know the ratio of stats that get imported from 7-8? I have a saved game at the very end of 7, does it matter if i just switch professions there or should i try to get those characters to higher levels before finishing? or does wiz 8 automatically decide your skill levels? Also how do the attributes correlate? do high attributes stay high? or do they drop to a normal created character's level for 8(until they get their 5 lvl bonus)?

Also What are the best items from 7 that will transfer to 8?

Items: Cornu of demon spawn, and some of the low level stuff (I kept a couple of short bows and some cure poison potions) Other than that, you don't get any high level armor or weapons, as this would spoil the game. All weapons and armor not carried will be replaced by starting armor and weapons.

Characters: All skills get reset down to base level for the race and profession. If you tanked in 7 (changed professions regularly and got everything) you should have all the skills that are still applicable. HOWEVER, all skills will be reduced down to baseline. If your priest managed to get critical hit (even up to 100) then they will have the skill, but it will remain at its base (about 20 from memory) and you will not be able to increase it, until you change to a profession that supports it. Also, expert skills will be wiped out. No Eagle Eye at 100 for starting parties. The only real bonus appears to be that you are continuing with characters you have lovingly built up (or mercilessly cheated), different endings start you in different places, and you get 4 levels instantly.

It seems to top out at 20.

Either switch/train in Wiz 7 or immediately switch in Wiz 8. If your team is all-elite (Valk, Monk, Lord, Sam, Ninja) you will not learn spells until level 5 AND you will always be 4 promotions behind learning the good spells. I have a team like that now. Level 13 and can't learn Portals.

All my transfer teams practiced bow and sling intensively before the switch to Wiz 8. They brought across Elven Bows, Great Bows, Mystic Arrows, Armorpiercers, Wrist Rockets and Medusa Stones. Forget the good armor. Drop it, sell it and buy good leathers. Bishop and alchemist armor has been upgraded in Wiz 8 so bring extra for them. Chamail+2 pants transfer but bishops cannot wear them any more !! Sword of Hearts will transfer, Dragons Teeth and Skull Bones too. Mystery Ray is now an all-purpose no-recharge-needed long-range weapon. Do you remember where you dropped it? How about your Spear+2 ?

Basically, if it is too good it won't survive the trip.

I've done a little bit of testing to see which items will transfer from Wiz7 to Wiz8. This is what I've figured out based on about a dozen imports:

1. Regular items will transfer multiple times. "Regular items" include your basic armor and weapons such as longsword, arrows, crossbow, halberd, etc. and leather armor, feathered hat, sandals, etc. "Multiple times" means that if your Wiz7 character has 5 spears, for example, all your spears will transfer to Wiz8. The best "regular item" armor that I have found for import include: bascinet, copper gloves, solleret and all ninja garb.

2. Some elite items are variable. They usually transfer and some will transfer multiple times. However, there are some importing rules involved which I didn't figure out.
These include: sai, nunchuka, claymore, no-dachi, chain mail +1, robes +1, holy basher, Spear +2, Kabuto, Flak Jacket, angel's tongue, Chromatic lyre, bec de corbin

3. Super elite items will transfer but only one item per character. These include: Elven bow, Great bow, Flamberge, Siren's Wail. It seemed to me that if your character had too many "elite items" then you will not be able to transfer any "super elite" items. Some sort of balance is required to maximize your item transfers.

4. Miscellaneous items that will import. Potions of hv heal, hv stamina, cure poison, cross of protection, bat necklace, diamond rings, mystery ray

5. Super-duper elite items will NOT import. (avenger, light sword, maenad's lance, muramasa blade, etc.)
