"Fizzling Spells"
I have just begun playing the game and have noticed that often times, my spells either fizzle or backfire. What is causing this? What can I do to minimize this?

1. "RE: Fizzling Spells"

Fizzles and backfires are normally caused by trying to cast a spell at too high a level. When you look at your spell choices the color of each circle tells you how well you can cast it. Green is good and red is bad. Best option when you don't want the problems is to cast the highest level green/lt green spell you can.

As your realm skill, professional level and school skill rise, the circles will get green on higher power levels.

A note: do your best to save some spell picks for later in the game. Most spells are available by finding/buying/stealing books but the 7th level spells are only available via spellpick at level-up.

For some spells, it's good to cast them in the red levels. If you're not in combat, and healing your party, then cast heal wounds in the red. It will help you gain skill points faster. If your in combat, though, and cast say fireball at a solid red level 7, it will probably backfire, and kill some of your party. Those spells, it's best to stay in the green, or maybe push to yellow (yellow means could backfire, probably will fizzle, or may actually cast).

Some spells (like heal wounds, stamina, knock-knock, detect secrets, charm, mindread) do little to no damage if they fizzle or backfire. These are best cast at orange levels; they will very surely increase your skill.

4. "RE: Fizzling Spells"
In non cobat mode certain spells are repeatable after battle try casting a level 1 heal and click on the repeat corcle (that 8th circle you see when you cast). It will autocast the the until your charactor is healed and a lot of tyme you will get a bonus level in either that spell skill or the overall schoo; skill or both. this is a cheap way to uf you are in a location that you are unlikely to be attacked level up spell areas.
