"Round #3 - Number of NPCs that can join the party"
We have heard that we can have up to six members in our party and additionally up to 2 NPCs can join us, for a total of 8.

Can we have more NPCs join our party, if we have a party of less than 6? Or is it fixed, there are two designated NPC slots?

If I remember correctly, the latter... but I'm not certain.

My question would be how many NPC we have to choose from and, kind of related to your first question, are these NPCs there as part of specific quests (an NPC wants to find the magic whatsyacall it and asks the party for help) or are they just bloodthirsty folk haning around taverns waiting for the first hint of adventure, and will follow your party forever.

Something about NPCs had their own agendas and would join (and/or stay) with you as long as those agendii (plural of agenda :?) were being met. But again, that doesn't answer either of my questions or yours.

Max number of npc's is 2?! that sucks, i kinda liked role playing a single character as myself and having the rest be npc's, kinda like Baldur's Gate. I didn't mind not having npc's in the really early wizardrys but those were hardly interactive, hell i would name my party members "1", "2", "3", "4", "5", "6" in the order of their hit points at the start!
I would be ok with max number of npc's as 2 if it isn't TOO hard to beat the game with 3 people in the party, but usually in games where you can have 8 it is hard with half the number (anyone ever play Nahlakh?)

Why not just roll up 1-3 characters and then name the rest NPC1, NPC2, NPC3, ... If it is role playing, then how you view your characters in your game hardly depends on how the game lets you get them there.

Your right that the game hardly depends on how the game lets you get them there, obviously, but that isn't what i meant to say.
I view my characters as characters i control, i view NPC's as non playing characters (characters that control themselves). I only want to control myself sometimes because i feel it gives the best experience for role playing, role playing 6 different characters has other good things about it, but if i am able to control NPC1, NPC2, and NPC3, they are not NPC's.
You make a good point if and only if they can be set to be computer controlled. that would be good enough for me.

I remember the statement about NPC's having thier own agendii, but if an NPC joins your party, I would think that you would have some control over them.

I think it would be great to have a couple of NPC's to control in battle. You could send them in and watch from a safe distance. Of course knowing my luck I will get an NPC that is either a scaredy-cat or he/she/it will turn on me.

It would be cool to meet NPC's in the local taverns, ask them to join your party and mug them in the back ally. Or maybe they mug you!

NPC's could be very cool or very lame. It will be interesting to see how the W8 team handles it.

This was taken from the FAQ:
(I think they have updated the FAQ recently?)

Q: Can non-player characters (NPCs) join your party?
Do you have control over them?
A: Certain NPCs will join your party in Wizardry 8. You will have complete control over them while they’re in the party. They’ll fight for you, go up in levels, use equipment you give them, and so forth. Of course, NPCs have their own agendas, and may decide to leave.

You can have two NPCs join your party at any one time, and, as has been noted here, you'll have complete control over them... unless you do something to tick them off... or ask them to go places that they don't want to go... or lots of other things.

When said NPCs do leave the party do they take all their weapons and equipment with them? It would be nice to have the extra carrying capacity, but not if 6 maps (or Wiz 8 equivalent)go walkabout when they decide to leave.

When RPCs leave the party, they return all the equipment you've given them. (Though they may keep some of their own prized personal possessions.)

In other words, they take what's theres and return what's borrowed
So, can we have an example of an NPC and his/her equipment?

Who is Charles Miles? Why are we taking his word for this? Apologies in advance if I'm the only one who didn't recognize an eminent authority.

He is a part of the Sir-Tech team, though I forget his offical title, I believe Linda referred to him as the 'Monster Wrangler' in a recent interview.

I'm a writer on the game (I wrote a bunch of the PC dialogue, for example) and also "Monster and Item Wrangler." That means I created the stats for the monsters and the items, and placed them in the world.

Happy Holidays!

It has been far too long since I have consulted the board. Of course not having a computer anymore kinda hurts. As far as the 2 NPC's I wonder if there will be "special" items available from them. Or if you can give them certain "cursed" items or really "heavy" stuff. By the way! I like the format of this board a lot!!!

Hey, it's good to hear from you again. Are you at your sister's place? Send me another email if you are.

AS to the NPCs, why would you want to go and do that ...? After they are nice enough to join up with you, carry part of your party pool of items, help out in fights, make enlightening comments, ...

Actually I was hoping to give them some not so goodies in exchange for some better goodies. We, my party would attempt to protect them in order to hopefully build friendships with the NPC's. After CODS and some of my actions against the inhabitants I am afraid of some I may meet ya know. Especially the Upkyr, Ratkins and Trangs.
In reponse to your question yes I am again at my sisters. I thonk she will be giving me a PC as a loaner. It will be a while before I can get a phone line installed though. At least I can resume and replay/train/prepare in Bane and CODS again to help get my party ready for WIZ8. I sent you a message under the "praise" reponse in your website.
It is good to see RBrown and Lord Gram on the board still.
They as you know their #####...I myself ran out of TP so I am getting quite familiar with my own... Will get back soon.
