"little bug with date/time???"
I noticed that sometimes when I view a message from the main list (ie. view the message text), then return to the main list (eg. the postings list for Wiz8), the time/date changes by a few hours. I can reproduce this problem with a single message, but I haven't really checked out the scope of it. Is this a bug? It doesn't really matter, but as Wiz8's release appears to be getting closer and closer, it would be nice to know what is the REAL time/date of postings just to keep current with up-to-the-minute precision

Also, is this the right place to ask these questions, or is there a bug reporting procedure?

TIA!

Robsan

1. "It may be in how you are looking at things"
I assume you are viewing collapsed threads (which shows just the original message) versus expanded threads (which shows the original mnessage and all replies).

When you view a forum (i.e. the Wiz 8 one) each message is listed with the date/time of the last post on that thread. So, if there is a post while you are viewing, the date and time will change when you refresh the screen.

Could that be it?

2. "More bizarre than that..."
Nope, I been around longer than that

Sometimes, but not always, I can get it to keep flipping back and forth between two times.

For example, the post that is currently 2nd on the Wiz8 list ("Interplay Wiz 8 publisher...") shows a last update time of 4:59 a.m. in the wiz8 posts listing. When I then viewed the message, then returned to the Wiz8 posts, the last update time was changing to 5:41 a.m., even though there were no new posts, and I was viewing it at 9:30 a.m. or so EST. Doesn't seem to be doing it now though, so maybe it was just some transient thing (or a hallucination )

I'll let you know if it comes up again...

3. "RE: More bizarre than that..."
I dunno. There are only 2 messages I see in the whole board system that have that time stamp - and they are both old (not in the past day or two).

This sounds like a problem that someone overseas was having before, though (if memory serves) they were seeing or not seeing some messages.

I thought that was a brwoser refresh issue, but this doesn't sound like that could be an answer (given the symptoms).

I am currently looking at upgrading to the new and improved version of the forum software, so this issue (if it is not halucinatoory in nature) may be resolved. But that is a few weeks or month off. I have to decide if I want to pay to upgrade or not and am too busy to do it right now anyway.

Let me know if and when you see it again. I am guessing that someone is posting or doing something that updates the forum (maybe editing) that is being picked up as your session changes.

New symptoms....

Here's the sequence of my actions:

From the Wiz8 board (where everything looked okay... dates and all), I selected the newest post (re: the new review and screenshots). When I browsed back to the Wiz8 listings using 'Back' in IE, the posts were listed in order by the "post date of the last item in each post's thread" (ie. not the most recent, the LAST as it occurs when you view the entire thread.)
Further use of 'Back' and 'Forward' produced other 'Post Date' related errors including the newest posts disappearing entirely from the main list.

Points of interest:

1. IE version 5.0

2. I've only noticed the problem when I access the board as a 'Favorite' (IE's version of bookmarks.)

3. If I click on 'Home -> Conferences -> Wiz 8 - Destination Dominus (Public)' after viewing a thread instead of using 'Back' to return to the main Wiz8 posting list, the problem does NOT occur.

4. 'Refresh' also clears up the problem.

Therefore, seems to me like some kind of caching prob. (?)

Hope this helps

Robsan
P.S. Your admin of this board so far has been great. Keep up the good work! It's appreciated...

5. "Definately looks like a cache issue"
Since not using your browser's back button and/or hitting refresh clears up the problem, it definately looks like a cache issue. I've never paid that much attention when and if I do those same steps ... I just always look for the 'new' icon to let me know there are new messages. I imagine I may have missed some, if my browser/method are using cached pages as well.

And I don't know enough about the MS IE vs Netscape differences to know if that is part of the issue. But I think that was what the other guy having the other problem (that I thought was a cache issue as well) was using (MS IE).

I guess since I always do the right-click to open in a new window, I am never going back and forth between pages. Thanks for the input and the good words.
