"New parties in Wizardry 6. . ."
I'm playing the UWA version of Bane through dosbox, and I started a new party with the intention of playing them all the way through wizardry 8, and I wanted to do it without doing any class changes. So, each member is in their final form. I have:

Dwarf Lord
Dracon Samurai
Faerie Ninja
Human Valkyrie
Human Monk
Elf Ranger

Now I knew that starting this party would be rough because I have no spells. But, it seems weird to me because not one of them can seem to hit anything. I checked around and the magic words thing isn't the issue because 1) I'm playing the UWA version and 2) I am able to hit enemies, it's just a RIDICULOUSLY low hit rate. I mean stupidly low. I have to save between every fight because half the time my party gets wiped out by rats or bats or vines, just because I can't hit them. It took me somewhere around 2 hours of grinding fights and saving and restoring to get my characters to level 2, and my ranger has already used all her arrows. Their weapon skills at this point are hovering 25-30, and checking their stats with Mad God's cosmic forge editor, they each have a base miss chance of 95-98.

Is there anything wrong with this? Or is Bane really that harsh on parties with no level 1 spells? Does a base miss chance of 95 seem high or is that just because they are level 2 with a 25 weapon skill?

I guess the game really is just that rough on level 1 parties. Definitely not for the impatient! Now that my party is level 3 soon to be 4, they are picking up the slack, especially the samurai.

I'm trying to play this one as purist as possible, with minimal reference to walkthroughs or maps. I've been making my own maps with Open Office Calc. It's pretty flipping excellent for mapping, especially with cell hyperlinks to other cells where I can easily link stairs or pits across levels.

The only Wizardry I ever finished was Wizardry 1. I played 7 multiple times, never even getting to the boat, in over a decade of attempts. This last one I was following a walkthrough point by point but I also made some edits with the cosmic forge editor that just made me feel like I wasn't really accomplishing anything. So here's hoping I have what it takes this go around!

Best of luck to you ... I've never made the transition back to 6 ... and haven't completed 7 in forever. I was thinking that your miss chance being so high might be if your party was over-encumbered, but just guessing at that. Seems like they are getting over the hump.

It is hard to get past the lackluster GUI compared to CotDS, especially switching to it during a VI play through. But it's doable, and after some hours of playing I'm used to it.

The only other thing bothering me is the piss poor skill bonuses my ninja is getting. 0-2 points per level up so far. At this rate she won't have 100 kirijutsu until level 100.

Having a blast though! This game is great.
