Innitra -ur (4 posts) Nov-06-00, 06:49 PM (Pacific) "game crashes that corrupt saves :( and pretty much everything else!" w&w has crashed twice on me now.....i would not mind but both times it has crashed i have lost all my saved games.....the crashes have occured when i have tried load a saved game.....the load time has been abnormally long about 20secs (sorry i got a udma 100 hd ) and then an error message comes up, reading something along the lines of 'cant load npctalk'....neway the only way out is ctrl escape or alt F4 and when i try to load the game again i get missing .dll errors....the contents of my w&w folder after a crash has no sub folders and there are 2 long name files one being 2.77 gig in size!!! these must contain all the sub folders AND SAVES!.....i cant uninstall the game so i have to delete it then remove it from my system reg for a reinstall...ne1 now if its at all possible to unpack? a long name file? or am i going to have to back up all my saves in future and start again now neway im stumped i've just lost about 15 hours of gameplay i think i have one backed up save of my characters but thsts it my system is as follows; athlon 800 128 pc133 ram voodoo3 2k sblive 1024 ata 100 ibm hd win98 everything on my system has the latest drivers ne1   Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

"a bit more......." if i run windows scandisk i get a message informing me that some content of my w&w folder is invalid...this error is repaired by erasing the invalid data....however it also states that if they are using an international character set c;ick cancel....as the files in question are long name files windows shortens the name to ||...(dont know if this has any bearing)....it also states that there are files and folders that are not visable or usable and scandisk will repair em for me.....my hunch is it will just delete the long name files.....   Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Lady_Adrexia (309 posts) Oct-23-02, 03:58 PM (Pacific) 3. "hmmmm..." Not sure what is up with your game...I have played the game through many times and have never had the game lock up on me yet. Is your game patched or unpatched??
