1. "Start furthest away from the vault"
I did this fairly quickly ... just started furthest away from the vault, pull one examine results, repeat.

This is from the ironworks walkthrough (http://www.tgeweb.com/ironworks/wizardswarriors/quest-Shurugeoncastle.shtml):

(2) In this Vault Room you'll fight some undead warriors and some imps. Once they're out of the way begin the Chain Pull Puzzle by starting with the pull chains nearest the locked grate and working north. Pulling some chains down raises others so keep looking around to see the effects of your actions. The last pull is on the north side of the southeast pillar. Once it stays down the grate will open to the vault and you can get the second Evil Element - the Idol of Darkness.

thanks, I finally figured it out by pulling them all untill were down, then pulling the last one.

As for Ironworks web site, they know where to put it. I have registered and waited and waited for approval then emailed them about my approval and emailed them and emailed them with NO ANSWERS. I have removed all links to them from my address book.
