"Thanks Rick :-)"
Stuck in the Crypt. GP is hard to come by. Picking up lots of items from battles to sell but being stuck in the Crypt my PCs are just about loaded down with what they can carry. I'm starting to have some fun with this game now as I'm trying to figure out the crypt puzzle.

Have to say that my 5 y/o in house monster expert informed me that what I thought were fish wiggling were in fact about 6 rats
stacked on top of each other stuck on the stairs. Eye's..... The second thing to go....

Heheh, i'm at about the same place. You happen to know of a way to identify all that crap you lug around without having to do it each time/with each char? There's no basic assay function for nonmagic items like in wiz, unless i'm just an idiot.

2. "duheee Art...what is this stuff?"
It's religion man, ain'tcha heard?

Religion?

Yeah, Blackwolf says the responsibility of the prisioners are to the Priests inside....

Ok. I'm back. I took an arm load of stuff the either the Priest or the guy in the armory to get them identified. I only identified the things I knew I would be keeping. Didn't bother with the 5 gp swords etc. Just sold that stuff off. I haven't look at any other way to identify anything. Guess I'm just waitng for a spell. OK...having just quickly paced through the spell book, nothing jumped out at me for an identify spell. Oh well.

Do you know how to climb down a ladder? Having a little prob there.

3. "Identify"
I think you need the Arcane Lore trait, which will give you the artifact skill. Then as your artifact skill increases, you can identify more elaborate items.

The whole trait/skill thing seems more important than spells and races right now. I was trying to map out what traits you need to go along with the various skills.

It seems traits are things you either have or don't - I guess you acquire more through quests/guilds. But which ones from where? And skills are the things (many seem to overlap traits and spells) that you can work on to improve.

4. "RE: Identify"
LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-00 AT 05:04 AM (Pacific)

Yah, I figured it out last night (identify). Basically it seems to be a priest thing. Some of the traits are through the race, some are through getting a new role, some require training, and assumably some can be obtained through quests.

I found that selling unidentified items will be at half price, while identifying something also costs half price. Therefore, if you know you are going to sell, it is faster just to sell it, rather than id and then sell it.

As far as climbing down a ladder goes, I usually just look down and press the forward button. Although I think I often end up just falling off and taking a couple points of damage.

5. "Identify - and Traits/Skills/Roles/Quests"
I thought Identify was more a "Warlock" thing, since they have the Arcane Lore trait.

As for how else to get "traits", I have been wondering about that. Yes, some races have them (Whiskahs=Night Vision), and they are assocaited with the elite roles (I don't think the base roles - Warrior, Wizard, Preist & Rogue - have any traits), but I was wondering if you can acquire some of them through quests (or other ways - Vampirism - seems the only way I would get that one is trough a bite , certainly wouldn't go out of my my to get that one ... and is there a cure?)

Questions, questions, questions, ....

6. "Sale price"
So, I wonder if the sale price is really half the value of the item, or item class. For instance, if I take in a brand new ?long sword?, will it fetch the same price as one I get in the grave yard, which might also be a ?long sword?, but once identified would be "rusted long sword".

If not, then the price to identify or the sale price may tell you whether it is worth identifying/keeping. If you have two ?sword? that look the same but one is worth a lot more ....

8. "RE: Sale price"
I'm pretty sure it's item, rather than item class. I'm too lazy to actually verify, so i'm gonna go on my memory

Priests have the ability to Learn the Ancient Lore trait through training, and then after that, you can learn the Artifact Skill. Makes sense that the Warlock would have it though ,seeing as how Warlock is basically a Bishop. However, I don't have any Warlocks yet, therefore, i happened across it by luck.

Doh!!! Just like swimming.... Thanks! Because of the FPS feel to the game, I was thinking more like Half life. On the ladder, just press up or down.

9. "RE: Identify"
Yah, the other alternative is using the jump button to swim. dunno if it works well with climbing though. Also, if you look diagonally up/up and press jump, you'll jump MUCH higher. Very useful for getting around the crypt.

10. "That doesn't work with me"
I tried everything that I could to go up and down. Getting on a ladder going up is easy, but if the ladder is at feet level, then I never am able to get on the thing...so I just fall.

I spent two hours trying to figure the science of the going down a ladder. Or how about those floor pits in the Crypt. Where is a rope when you need it the most.

11. "Ladders 101 :)"
Not sure if this works or not, but I remember reading it on another board. They said that going down a ladder was 'easy' ... just walk up to the ladder, turn around, back up until you fall off, then push forward to grab on. By the time I heard how easy and intuitive ladders were to navigate, I had given up (on them and the game).

I tried that...

I think that I will just stick with falling down and taking a few injuries. I will just walk around until I heal.

13. "RE: Ladders 101 :)"
descending ladders has never caused so much pain

here is how i go about it.....

1. put your map on!
2.put your back to the ladder
3.walk backwards slowly.....
walk back untill u see the map change (ie showing the next level down) this means u are on the ladder! (u may need to go back a bit more after the map changes)

4.face forward and look down.....(not so much that u would see your feet) then press forward....play around with where u are looking till it works.....

Actually, going backwards towards a down ladder, falling and pressing forward fast does cause you to hit the ladder, but I could only go back up. Maybe there is a precise angle that you can choose to go down after you are on the ladder...

I'll try the map technique
