I don't know exactly if these are bugs or not, but I'll post them anyways.

2. When you kill brother TShober at any given time his ghost will attack you each time you get to the cable bridge at Eryn River. When you save the game after you've killed him, he will be there again when you reload that save.

3. Sometimes wandering NPC's will go to an area where the party can never go themselves. It is called Red Mountains (or Red Forest? don't know for sure)

4. When you have given the fee to a certain individual to get to his treasure room he vanishes forever in the game. If you cast Locate Person, you'll notice that he is still at the same location where you met him.

Well, I want to know, why I'm not able to read the texts. What is my problem? Is it because of the german version, or because of the source code? I thought it would be released by SirTech???

Editor can't be used to edit german version of the W7.

Though it still can be used to view it. For it you should have several files from English version. Just make another folder, copy english files there and give the editor path to this folder when it asks. If editor already set up for your German Game folder you should run Regedit, seek for "Wizardry VII Editor" or "Wizardry VII Viewer" strings (without quotes) and change "w7path" key there to English folder.

Since that Editor (or Viewer) can be used as Viewer only.

Sorry, can't give you more appropriate solution.

If anyone can send me german version files, I can see what I can do with it. Contact me, please, for that.

I'll translate (sorry, RavagingDragon, but I'm bored...):

Der Editor kann die deutsche Version von W7 nicht editieren, allerdings kann er genutzt werden, um W7-Dateien anzugucken. Dafür brauchst Du einige Dateien der englischen Version. Erstelle einfach einen weiteren Ordner, kopiere die englischen Dateien hinein und gib dem Editor den Pfad zu diesem Ordner, wenn Du danach gefragt wirst.

Falls der Editor bereits den Pfad zum deutschen Spielordner kennt, solltest Du die RegEdit starten, nach "Wizardry VII Editor" oder "Wizardry VII Viewer" (ohne Anführungszeichen) suchen und den "w7path"-Schlüssel dort in den Ordner mit den englischen Dateien ändern.

Entschuldige bitte, dass ich (mad god) Dir keine passendere Lösung geben kann.

Wenn mir (mad god) jemand die Dateien der deutschen Version zusenden kann, werde ich gucken, was ich damit anfangen kann. Bitte kontaktiert mich (den Mad God) hierfür.

I wanted to say that for german version editor can act mostly as viewer by single reason: you will be able to use it only having certain english game data files, but having those used by the editor you can't edit your german version...

Der letzte Satz besagt (frei übersetzt), dass der der Editor für die deutsche Version nicht als Editor funktioniert, weil man ihn nur verwenden kann, wenn man einige englische Dateien benutzt. Zum editieren der deutschen Version sind aber genau diese Dateien zu verändern...

Let me give a more precise definition: Editor can edit in german version everything it can edit in english. But: 1.the user will not be able to understand anything in the interface. 2. Text editor will edit meaningless data, because it's algorithm designed to work with latin ANSI characters....

Those are main troubles with german version.

The program I am shipping is not UNICODE, though I can compile it in that mode, because it is meaningless since the game itself is ANSI.

It is possible to make german version, but I need german game data files for that. Even in that case I doubt that I can manage it, because I don't know German language at all.

2. This was specially made by developers: Tshober's Ghost will appear every time you approach the river (there are two point where this event can be activated (you can't miss those point if you travel that directions

3. I suspect that no walls exist for NPCs (I don't know exactly how calculated where they are and where do they go next turn, but I believe that many restrictions that party have are not applicable to NPCs).

4. Yes, he is not killed, but this NPC is never allowed to wander on Guardia. That's why he is still seen where he was. At least he told you that he's gonna fly away ;), but in game engine NPC can have two states: Dead or Alive, in Alive state he must be somewhere. As a developer I whould do the following thing: A place ??Unknown?? exists among the map places where NPCs can be, I whould place him into that place, so spell will tell you "NPC at ??Unknown?? Place", that means that it is outside of Guardia that perfectly coincide with the story.

Reminds me of the NPC train that barrels down the alleyways looking for me every game...

Usually the same thing happens: I let Rodan loose on the world, he wanders around pummeling the Rattkin, T'Rang and Dane (because they're all "bad") and the Gorn (because they're racist), and what's left is a group of 5 or 10 people, depending, who are friendly to Rodan, stalking me for a peek at one of the maps I own. Sometimes they all bunch up and I meet 4 or 5 at a time before I can even move one tile away!

Playing the game so often, I've noticed a few things about the wandering NPCs. They're attracted to maps (duh), but when you have all of them, they all seek you out, ignoring all possible alliances, grudges, etc... solely to find the maps.

However, this changes once you "leave" the playing field. Once setting foot in a place where NPCs cannot tread (the Sea, for example), they resume their wanderings about Guardia, beating each other up and making alliances as they normally would. I noticed this when Galiere and Ulgar were part of the NPC train (All aboard! Whoo whooooo!) along with Rodan, but once I hit the seas, suddenly, Rodan opened a can on them.

I love this game.

Not really a bug, but a programmer's flaw:

The head of a certain faction tells you that he'll contact you via his NPCs. Unfortunately, those two NPCs are usually the first to be killed by other NPCs, so that the party can't continue this quest or trade with him.

To make things worse, the boss regularly acquires the *legend* map, which then becomes unaccessable --> restart game or edit.

Also der Editor funktioniert mit der dt.ver recht stabil,soweit ich das bis jetzt sagen kann.
Allerdings den einen Fehler habe ich noch mit einigen zusätzlichen einlagen die ich mir selber geben will.zB.einige Brunnen in die Landschaft stellen (schäm)usw.Aber das habe ich noch nicht herausbekommen warum das einen Absturz verursacht!Entweder ich mache was falsch,oder mad God müsste mal schauen!

Zu den Texten die ich nicht lesen kann.OK,ist also ein Problem mit der dt.vers.Damit kann ich allerdings Leben.

Macht weiter so.

As far as I can say, the editor works quite robust/stable (?) with the german version. Although I can produce one error with features I want to add, e.g. place fountains in the landscape (shame on me) etc. I can't figure out why that causes a crash!

Either I'm doing something wrong or Mad God should take a look at it. Regarding the texts that I can't read: Ok, it's a problem with the german version. I can live with that.

Who cares that it is illegal?
I will not use them in commercial needs. I release my editor for free and will not use those files in anything profitable and such.

It would be great if you can send me required files. I need only couple of them. With someone who is very familiar with german & english I probably can produce german version of the editor.

As for the fountain bug:
please, read or ask someone to translate you text files shipped with the Editor - they explain the nature of the "bug".
To be more particular:

5.4.2 You must understand that each map (32 maps total) has its own type. I don't know where it is stored or how it is determined. That 'type' regulates what walls and landscapes are valid for this map. In turn Display Features will crash the game if they not 'compatible' with walls and(or) landscape. For example, you can't add secret button, lever or sconce on wood wall. You can't add a portcullis or a window on Map 0 and can't have water there too (except for fake water). Those restrictions heavily limit the editing capability, but I can't see how to avoid them yet.
5.4.3 So, when you changed something, go in game and it crashes - it does not mean that Editor screwed it all up, it means that you've just used invalid wall, landscape of display feature on this map.

Ich habe einige fortschritte gemacht was das benutzen des Editors betrifft.
Es sieht so aus,als könne man generell KEINE Brunnen an der Oberfläche platzieren.
An sonsten geht es Perfekt mit den Brunnen.(dungeon)

Also bis auf den Text-Editor scheint dein Editor mit der dt.vers
zu funktionieren.Soweit ich das bis hierher sagen kann.
Ich kann nicht immer Testen,soviel Zeit habe ich nicht.^^

Muß auch noch was Arbeiten.*grins*

Bitte, lies die Textdateien, die mit dem Editor versandt werden oder bitte jemanden, sie zu übersetzen - sie erklären die Herkunft des Bugs.

Um genauer zu sein:

5. Karten-Editor
5.4.2
Man muss verstehen, dass jede Karte (32 im Ganzen), ihre eigene Type hat. Ich weiß nicht, wo das gespeichert ist, oder wie es bestimmt wird. Dieser "Typ" bestimmt, welche Mauern und Lnadschaften für diese Karte gültig sind. Daher lassen Features das Spiel abstürzen, wenn sie nicht mit der Landschaft und / oder Wand "kompatibel" sind. Zum Beispiel können geheime Knöpfe, Hebel oder Wandleuchter nicht zu Waldwänden hinzugefügt werden. Gittertüren oder Fenster können der Karte 0 nicht hinzugefügt werden, Wasser auch nicht (ausgenommen imitiertes Wasser). Diese Restriktionen limitieren die Editionsmöglichkeiten sehr stark, aber kann noch nicht erkennen, wie sie umgangen werden können.

5.4.3 Also, wenn Du etwas geändert hast, in das Spiel hinein gehst und es abstürzt - bedeutet das nicht, dass der Editor alles zerpflückt hat, es bedeutet nur, dass Du ungültige Wände, Landschaften oder Features auf dieser Karte verwendet hast."

Um keine Missverständnisse aufkommen zu lassen.Ich habe NULL Ahnung,geschweige Wissen von Programieren oder Ähnliches.
Allerdings kenne ich W7 sehr gut da dies mein Lieblingsspiel ist und auch bleiben wird.(denke ich)
Allerdings kenne ich mich mit Editoren recht gut aus,auch wenn sie in Englisch sind,klicke ich mich halt durch.*lach*

Aber wenn du sagst das du kein Deutsch kannst,wird es so wie du sagst recht sinnlos einen Deutschen Editor zu Proggen.

Aber wenn du willst können "wir" es ja dennoch versuchen!
Wenn Du meine Hilfe brauchen kannst.
Wie gesagt,mein Englisch ist nunmal eine Katastrophe,aber es sollte einen Versuch wert sein.

Okay, the Editor doesn't work with the German version, that's a problem, because I have the German version. So i have two questions:

1. Can you edit the Slayer-Weapons-to-Fighter-Types bug with the german version?

2. Where can I download Wizardry 7 English? Because I'd really like to play it in original English instead of damn-bad-translated-german. I know normally it's not legal to download a game still for sale, buuut: I already bought a version so I think it's not illegal... In fact you can download things if you already have them, I have it and download it only in another language. I don't see a problem...

You can't, certainly not legally. Although you may think it is unfair (as you have, no doubt, paid for the German version), you will have to purchase the English version (or get someone to buy it for you). From time to time, I understand it is available on e-bay. For example:

Editor can edit ANYTHING in German version, except for the texts. It can edit texts too, but this is meaningless, since there will be abrakadabra

The problem is that all texts are screwed up. I don't mean captions on dialogs, I mean certain names: classes, races, special game effects, varios names of actions, spell names, etc...
All those names are taken from the game data files... and screwed up if you have german version... but this does not affect editing abilities - you can use it without fear.

What to say - my Editor supports also Wizardry 7 Gold...

I had this happen to me, where the Rats bit it before I could complete Barlone's quest...

But oddly enough, when I went back to his place for the 40,000 gold pieces thing, though I dreaded not being able to finish everything as I approached the area, the gate opened up without me having to talk to one of them first, and the quest continued!

I'm playing the UWA version on the CD (with the official crack). Maybe they fixed it in this version?

Okay, it gets a bit confusing here. This is post #18, by Aragon, not translated word by word:

"Just don't get me wrong: I don't know anything about programming or the like. But I know Wiz7 very well, for it is and will be my favourite game. I know Editor quite well, when they're in English, I "try and error" *laughs*.

But if you say that you don't speak German, then you're right: It makes no sense to program a german editor. But if you want then "we" could try anyway! If you need my help. As I've said, my english is a disaster, but it should be worth a try.

Ravaging Dragon fragt in seinem Post #20 nach dem Download der englischen Version (wird auf E-Bay verwiesen) und ob der Editor in der deutschen Version den Bug entfernen kann, dass Kämpfer von bestimmten Waffentypen doppelten Schaden nehmen. Darauf Mad God:

Das Problem ist, dass alle Texte wirr sind. Ich rede nicht von den Überschriften der Dialoge (?), sondern von bestimmten Namen: Klassen, Rassen, besondere Spiel Effekte, verschiedene Bezeichnungen von Aktionen, Zauberspruchnamen etc.

All diese Namen werden aus den Datenfiles des Spiels entnommen... und verdreht, wenn Du die deutsche Version hast... aber das berührt nicht die Editierfunktionen - die kannst Du ohne Furcht benutzen.

I paint the translator here for test to benutzen.Wie therefore, for the editor, in the meantime, I have worked quite well in the handle.
Life has, I could with that, this was probably a little rash from me spoken editor as me of the text.
Here one has only a bounded perimeter for the fact for it something is sad! Once, I have had a look at the structure of the signs exactly.
The scenario.dbs file of the German version gives this one used a Savegame editor! This is not selbstverständlich.Alle others I have at it looked once, her eigene.dbs use file which they in the exe have integrated.

It is an absurdity gives this to signs for me out to bekommen.Es there is not this one on the keyboard.
Or signs are these one uses programming writing in this. (no idea)

However, one would not know the savegame editor to help nehmen.Ich wisely who has written this one! However perhaps show it to somebody here.

Can one integrate the Monster-Pic of Cosmic Forge also in W7?Therefore only the pictures.Or this is a too big intruded on the game?Does one need a spezieles tool for it?I see this, it is the equal animation like.One still should only the pictures convert VGA.However, am not sure for me.

Well, this can be possible when I implement Picture Editor.
Then anybody can do this, even you.
But I did not made it. It is not very simple, because pictures include not only the picture itself, they also include information on (I called them so) "slide shows".

Picture can consist of several frames, actually.
"Slide Show" - somehow determined sequence of frames and their coordinates that can be shown. When monster performs its attack a certain slide show is shown. When you see Funhouse Gadget working or ComputerConsole blinking in game - all these are slide shows. I don't know Slide Shows format yet. It is to be researched and will not be up too soon.

Picture formats are understood and need only quite a time to implement a small picture Editor.

Sometimes I get an error! "Maze set Error System Error Unable to open scenario.hdr I used although no false walls or similar.(I think)I am not sure however, I have in this cohesion similar not before read?
However, it was not all about the editor,but around a bug in the game.Or what have I misunderstood?
I have in the meantime learning something.For editing I consult the English msg files.

It would be splendid if we would speak the equal language.

In this I manage if Quadrants moves single sets,it enters crash!

You write that one can move cells of a to b via Drag & Drob.No, one does not know this.

One only can do it when there empty cells are.

Or what have I misunderstood??

Goes manage quadrant, cell 15 on map 00.

This cell has only walls.

If I put this cell besides 14 via drag & drob,and installs grass and streets there,Come to enter the error message in the game,"maze set error,system error: Unable to open scenario.hdr c:\W7 "

Once again something to the Bane monster Pic.The Pic for certain also contain animations.Bane is in EGA graphic.However, converting the Pic in VGA may not be a problem.The movements of the monsters are surely exactly the equal ones like in W7.Or I am mistaken there?
I would like to have some monsters of Bane in W7.
Opponents looking humanly are something else than slime,glibber anyway.^^

I am curious whether you can reach this.I would be very happy........

P.S.
As for terminology (for the better understanding each other): Map consists of 16 QUADRANTS (0-15), quadrant consists of 64 CELLS (8x8 cells with coordinates (0-7, 0-7)).

I see that Quadrant is not the best name for that entity, but it is too late to redone anything.

However, no monsters come there!Why?And there where no Battle masks stand, monsters come.

Yes, I have understood you.

Battle mask is something that determined when you start the new game.
After that the mask for all maps stored in save file. So changes on the map will not do anything.

Try to start a new game to see if that works! ;)

P.S. The same rule applies to Initial Activity States for Event IDs.

I'm in the forbidden zone in New City (using Wizardry Gold on XP) but when the console prompts me for the server (on using the COMM-LINK) and I try to type, it comes up with:

023'@41A2 instead of 023@41A2

No matter what keys I press, I keep getting that floating "'" before the "@" symbol. I even tried using StickyKeys. And of course the computer console won't accept that code as it is invalid with the "'" in it. I cannot delete it, I sdon't appear to be able to avoid this character plopping in when I type the "@"

I don't believe I can beat the game without doing the server bits so how do I get round this bug? (and yes I have tried using different keyboards and changing the language settings)

Try turning on NUM locks, then press and hold the ALT key,, then type 64 and release the ALT key. That should be the equivalent to the "@" sign.

I tried to play Wizardry Gold some time ago and came across a strange bug - it was impossible to make peace with NPC's - even when using the charm spell. As a result I couldn't get along with any non friendly NPCs. I had as many patches as I could find and it still didn't fix the problem.

Can anyone help with this?

Diplomacy was not implemented in the conversion from Wiz 7 to Wiz Gold. So, in order to interact with the key NPC characters, you instead have to complete certain "triggers" that will set them to amiable.

There should be some posts on the specifics (i.e. what to do to get the Dane guy to talk to you, etc.)

Barlone gets his grubby paws on the Legend map and you have to talk to his flunkies to get it. Trouble is, they're usually dead by this time, so one ends up having to edit in the Legend map.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet...

In the unupdated version of WizGold, at the character select screen... if you hold down any arrow key on the directional pad (not numpad though that may work too), after selecting the sex (i believe) so like holding the arrow key right as you click the sex, it will bypass the profession screen and the skill allocation screen and you'll end up with a classless person that has far more hitpoints than they should, something like 20-40. I've tried putting this buggy characters in my parts, and they do level normally, but you don't get to alot skills to them. I haven't checked to see if you can change their profession in game and what items they can use while not part of a class.
