"Expert/Ironman Adventure"
I haven't seen any posts here on expert/ironman games so I thought I'd share my own successful adventure.

My party consisted of the following:

Dracon Fighter - Front. Maxed Strength and Dex first.
Human Samurai - Front. Strength and Int.
Dwarf Valkyrie - Left Flank. Strength and Piety.
Hobbit Ranger - Right Flank or Back. Senses and Int.
Hobbit Bard - Usually in Back. Dex and Speed.
Fairy Bishop - Middle or Back. Int and Piety.

The Rpc's I most often used: (no surprises here...)
RFS-81 - Front
Vi - Right flank

This group had little trouble in the monastery or Arnika. My first close call came in the mine tunnels, just outside the cart building, where my level 8 characters (except for the just recruited level 9 RFS-81) ran into 5 tanto wasps. I actually thought this fight was going to be an early wipeout, but as luck would have it there were some friendly T-rang nearby. RFS and my Valkyrie were eventually killed but I managed to move my group into the middle of the t-rang and with lots of powders and potions eventually beat down the wasps.

I didn't have any trouble with Marten's Bluff, Gigas, or Trynton, and I did a lot of sneaking and running in the wilderness areas to avoid the more dangerous fights early on. My next close call came when I tried to enter Rapax Rift a bit too early and was nearly overwhelmed by a couple of warlocks which I couldn't reach because of the sheer number of lesser rapax in the way. I managed to run away from the fight back out to the the northern wilderness.

So I decided to do Bayjin and the sea caves and level up a bit before returning. Bayjin was a breeze, but I had the misfortune of running into three death rays in the spot with the buccaneer's ghosts. I had to fight through the ghosts before I could get to the rays and in the mean time their death spells were taking quite a toll. I had three or four deaths in that fight and had to pass around the ressurection powder and bring people back in the middle of combat. It was ugly but my intrepid band hung in there and madee it through. I avoided Nessie the first time through but I eventually did come back for her and got Excaliber- the only great weapon I found during the course of the game.

My last close call came in the Rapax away camp after freeing the two prisoners. Although no one died in the battle, for several rounds my entire party was paralyzed except for my Samurai. I had to constantly keep shifting him around the formation so the Rapax who charged in were hitting him and not my helpless paralyzed members. I had three elementals up at least, which helped to keep most of them distracted and eventually I was able to get everyone unparalyzed and back in the fight. This was the first game in which I succeeded in pulling off the Trang-Umpani alliance.

Ascension Peak turned out to be surprisingly easy. I found the perfect strategy for dealing with the three djinns- combine a party move with a max strength purify air every round- even if you don't need to move. This guarantees your purify air will go off AFTER all those nasty cloud spells and dissipate them. The final rapax battle was effectively over after one blast from the chaos drone, although the mop up took considerable time. There were rapax running everywhere! Also my Samurai, who was the weak link in my group for 90% of the game, finally came into his own. Between banish, lightning strike, and critical hits he was quite the demonslayer.

In total I had about 20 deaths over the course of the adventure.
Myles somehow got killed permanently- I'm not sure how this happened as he wasn't in my group at the time. He got involved in a fight in Arnika and I thought he was fine but the next time I came into town he was gone. My fighter had the distinction of being the only member of my group never killed by the enemy- both of his deaths were the result of my bishop's deathspell backfires. Anyway, after so much death and pain there was no way I was going to give up even the tiniest part of my payback- and I chose my ending accordingly.

1. "Cool :-)"
Thanks for sharing your adenture.

Question. Is there any chance of the resurection spell(s), powders or potions fizzling to the extent that the PC will be ashened as they were in the days of yore?

I have "quit-no save" for so many years I can't even remember using a res spell.

I guess you just have to accept the fact that there will be deaths when you play Iron Man and be real careful to make sure teh whole party does not die ...

@ Marc: I have never had a resurrection spell or potion fail (in Wiz 8).
