I thought I might post a list of known bugs, for posterity.. or what-not. This is by no means an all-inclusive list (haven't quite finished the game after all). But some of these can be circumvented if you're aware of them.Exploits (yes, they get their own category):
1. Toughen bug: entering town clears out any buffs you may have had active while entering.. however, with this particular spell (a vine spell that increases your HP by 10 per cast), your new higher HP total will remain static while toughen goes away.
2.Gold Bug (also a related item dupe bug, but I'll let you figure that out):
Characters in the inn that -aren't- in your party tend to have values such as gold/equipment held static as long as they don't leave the inn. Result? A character with some money can be added to your party, have their money pooled, then kicked out... leave inn, re-enter, rinse and repeat.
3.Sell back gold bug: Some items sell for more than their purchase value (skull dagger)... so you can quickly increase your money buying and selling the same item off a vendor.
4.Guild Credit bug: After entering the area where you are to be rewarded for a quest, repeatedly switching characters (without going into buy/sell or entering the guild mind you) can result in a character being rewarded multiple times for the same quest. You can max your guild level off the first quests doing that.
5.Keep a quest item bug: some quests require you to return an item to a guild, once the reward speech starts, go into the characters inventory, and give the item to someone else.. end result you get the reward & keep the item.
6.Quest item in inventroy bug: may not -exactly- be a bug, but is illogical. When out in the field, you sometimes (for quests) will give an NPC an item, these items are kept in their inventory. Thus any item you've given them, you can get back. The Stout King asks for Dragon ore to make you Dragon armor. You can steal the ore you gave him off his body, and give it right back to him for more armor. You can also buy the dragon arrows you delivered off Torin... so much for avenging his father.
Crash Bugs:
Most of these are related to Hardware problems, and runnning in D3D mode. Many have been verified by HP. One of the more interesting bugs lets you start the game, but you can't leave town, or equip a hat for some reason... so if you can't equip a hat, beware. Also popular, is the Malloc error (short for memory allocation), usually means you're short on Hard-drive space... free some up. Deep6 (named after the executable I think) is some inscrutable internal error that arises for many and seemingly random reasons - the best case for saving often. Finally, any number of other people can't even in start the game due to some hardware conflicts... (some can though, as evidinced by the game FAQS online).
Design/other bugs:
1.Cutting a guild reward text bit short by entering buy/repair (or the guild interestingly enough) will often result in not only missing the reward, but.. being stuck on that quest... no longer able to complete it.
2.Accruing a certain number of skills/traits will give you more than the screen can display... there is currently no way to scroll or display them... and this can make for difficulties when leveling (unable to add points).
3.The Spirit Shield trait (+4 ac when wearing Robes), doesn't seem to do anything, even if all you're wearing is a robe.
4.When "in training" to be a certain class, you can join those class's guilds before completing said quest.... and can subsequently cancel that that class-training and retain the otherwise un-obtainable guild memberships...
5.Enchanting items for resists results in a 20% resist (to whatever) per enchant (or so it says on the item), however, when equipped, these resists are reduced if present at all.
6.Spectral Raven isn't listed as a group/area-effect spell in the manual, but works as one in game.
7.Create Portal often works when teleport doesn't.
8.Open and closing/moving things in game have a capacity to get stuck in game when -anything- gets in the way. Oftentimes elevators doors will deliver crush damage to roachs/players who get in the way, and stop working afterwards (won't complete their range of movement. This is a showstopper in many cases, not to mention silly. My paladin is slain by a door. In the boogre caves, the opening door on the trap gate got stuck when it tried to open while a grunt was near... killing the grunt, and staying shut... leaving me reloading to a shurugeon castle save... which brings me to-
9.Loading and Saving can only be done in two different areas. Design? You can only load in town, and you can only save outside town. I hope to god this gets changed.
10.Display bugs, even on working video cards, some race/gender combinations will have freakish display problems on the models when trying to equip a given piece of armor (try a Samurai Do on a female elf samurai)
11.NPCs will often wander off when you try to talk to them (Mekdawa) even though they seem to want to talk to you.
12.Friendly NPCs will block passages in places like the Frog village or Stout Mines.. making passage problematic.
13.Many items have to be "used" to be.... well.. used (like bard instruments), the problem being, the use-list resets everytime after a use.. extremely inconvenient.
that's all I can think of.. feel free to add/comment
