"Crypt........Is there anythng else?"
It would seem that the goal of the Crypt is to get the Signet Ring. After I finished this area, I read the rest of the walk through. It said to kill Scabban (sp?) so I went back and took care of him. Killed the Crypt Keeper too because...um, I was feeling mean. Tough little bugger he was, did I tell ya!

Later I found out that there was/is a Scabban quest of some sort.
Well, unless it has something to do with reassembling his voporized butt, I'll have to pass.

Any other major parts or items to the Crypt?

I find it interesting that the que or prompt for the NPC's to start talking is not well defined. I can walk into the Crypt Keepers room a little ways before he start talking. However, as I am swimming past his room on the "other side" much further away and nowhere near the room (if you will) you hear "Oh. Hello again." Etc.... as you swim on.

1. "The mechanics are a bit dubious"
It's probably due to proximity ... you have to walk well into the room to get close to him, because he is on the far side. And since you swim right by the far side, you are closer to him. The same thing happened to me last night.

Luckily for me, it took me forever to find out how to open the second door of the crypt. By that time I got both of my Wizards onto the Scabben quest ... now if I can only get back out

2. "Scabben Quest"
What do your Wizards have to do? Is this a Guild Quest?

The only guild quest I have done so far involves killing a thief for the guy who run the Armory. Mindless. Went outside the Village a short way, found the thief, blew him away, back to the guild and the guy said nothing to me. I suppose I was to give him something to prove I completed the deed. Whatever.

Wanted to say something about opening treasure chests in the game. I am not playing with a Rogue and prior to getting the Pry spell, I would send my toughest guy to open the chest. Kinda rude, but it worked well enough. Quit-no save-reload. It was a drag but it worked. Using the Pry spell still triggers the trap, but the chest opens on the first try. Economy, I figure. Then while dealing with a chest that was trapped with a....fireball-pain-hurt-you-a-lot spell, I thought, "3D you dolt. 3D. You don't have to stand in front of the chest!" I backed out of the room as far as a could and then cast the Pry spell. I was able to dodge the Fireball. Cool.

However, while out in the woods, I found a chest that rigged with a Poison Fang trap. I backed up as far as I could and still make out the chest. Cast the spell, (took awile to get there) the chest flew open, the spell was triggered and my PC was promptly poisoned. Go figure......

3. "Scabben and other quests"
Yes, it is a Wizards guild quest. As for the other one you are talking about, I had no problem with that ... be sure the character(s) that took the quest are the active ones when you return to collect credit. I think this only applies to 'guild' quests (i.e. anyone carrying enough of the right thing, will get credit just by being in town hall, they don't have to be actively selected).

There are a lot more quests to do, in the warriors, priest and wizards guilds and town hall has 'employment'. That is another thing ... having started with a rogue and having no guild in the first town sucks. But I have been able to open most all chest and doors eventually, without setting them off ... and don't have the 'pry' spell yet. So, that saves me from butchering the chests

One hint/tip: get as many people joined in the guilds as soon as you can (i.e. both or all three warriors in the warriors guild). That way they can all take up the quests and all get credit ... in one trip, not two or three (if at all).

5. "RE: Scabben and other quests"
All my PC's are Guild members. (W,W,W Wiz,P,Wiz) All three of my Warriors accepted the "go kill the thief" quest. Pehaps only one gets the credit (though you are saying differently) and I didn't notice who it was. Also, I was thinking that it might matter who actualy got the kill during battle. I think in this case one of my Wizards finished the guy off. Would this matter??

6. "That should not matter"
Well, maybe it does. This seems to be one of the quests people complain about the most, so it could just be broke in that regards.

One of the Warrior quests is to retrieve an item. I had two joined up for the quest and when I returned with the item equipped, entering the guild with that player active got him credit. After that, I clicked o hte other warrior and he also received credit, though he was told that the item had already been found. Hopefully, (as it was with the toad quest) just going back to the spot of the quest (i.e. where the item was found) would be enough for any future warriors to fulfill this quest as well.

I'd hate to think you would have to drop flags every where you do a quest thing (i.e. Killed the thief here) just so others in your party could later get credit for something they had already been a part of.

7. "RE: The mechanics are a bit dubious... they charge way too much!"
I had a really neat idea for getting out. Naturally, it didn't work... but it shoulda.

Take crates, barrels, wotall, and pile them in the missing section of the stairs.

Welp.

The crates 'disappear' whi;le trying to carry them up from the pool and down the hallo to the main room. Frustrating.

Then I 'stalled the elevator with a treasure chest... up/thump/down... up/thump/down. Neat looking but no payoff.

So. Have a reeeely good headache remedy and jump off the elevator (in F'Lokis Room) and watch it go down. Timing is everything except here where you'll end up with a smited noggin no matter how deft you are. Do a "Die Hard" jump and ride the 'vator up, up, and away.

10. "How is this for dumb?"
I missed the exit after you drop through Scabban's lair. So, I spent forever looking for another way out and the only spot I found I had not got to (I could tell becaue there was an unopened chest on a walkway I could see) was about 4-5 crates/barrels out of my reach.

So, I spent a 'good' 2 hours, using the elevator that was right there, going down, picking up boxes, moving them to the elevator, going back up, taking the elevator down, dragging them in, repeat (and rinse

Finally, I had a make-shift staircase backed up to the wall, high enough to climb up to the walkway above. (The first try I went for a freeform staircase, but it kept falling over as I would push my stairs instead of jumping on them sometimes - thus my second try backed up to the wall.)

Well, I finally did it! Only to find there was no exit, just another treasure or two and had to either go back down the way I came or drop (from even higher) down into/past Scabban's lair.

When I eventually found the way out, I felt like a real Lizardman (at least one trained for UPS service)

You want to get on the quest before you meet him (if possible).

Pick at him, .... na. He might be more aptly name Slimen, or Oozen.

You got it right, the main goal is to get what you need to continue in the game (the signet). There are at least two other quest items I can remember.

9. "RE: Crypt.... Murphy's Ghost Lives! well, sorta."
Back in the days (Wiz I) before hints, cheats, and spoilers could help you leverage a character to godlike proportions there was the blessed Murphys Ghost. A fairly easy kill, always waiting in the same place, Murphy's Ghost gave low level PC's a chance to earn a nice amount (for that level) of XP AND some walking-around change in their pockets. Ten or twelve visits could mean a couple of levels advancement.

Imagine my pleasure to run across a close relative (ancestor? decendant?) of Murphy's in the W&W crypt. Called the Spirit of Rumphy, he/she can be dispatched with regular weapons (sorry, no magic I have available seems to work) at regular intervals with a predictable amount of XP (about a grand) AND a 500 gp magic wand left after the skirmish. Such a deal!

Rumphy can be found just a couple of rooms away from the Statue of Kerah and deserves a visit each time you enter the crypt.

Now, a 'hint' for me.

I seem to have either used or misplaced my Rat Skull. Have no idea where it got off to. Have no idea if this is important or not. Checked earlier saves but either hadn't gotten it yet or frittered it away. Saving my earliest PC incarnation in case. Could use some help/advice/pity as to what to do next.

m.t.bear,
whose wizard finally got tired of lugging around skulls and dumped them on the open market for 5 gp a pop. All 72 of them!

The rat skull is on the ground in a darkened corner of the asylum. I haven't seen a purpose for it yet.

Killing the Crypt Keeper will get you a ?strange skull? which I think is a rat skull as well.

Kill Rethpian? Before or after he eats his Rat Pie?

And besides, how would I ever explain it to his brother?

Actually, my wizard 'used' the rat skull on himself and some sparkly stuff went off. But I didn't save that session and later, when I tried it again, nothing.

Next time through (I'm on my 2nd Reset- long and sad story) I'm gonna try to sell it to the Mayor. Guy's buying skulls at 10 gopis a pop, double the going rate in the armory.

Thanks for the tip, by the way. Always appreciate ANY help I can get.

16. "Rats !"
Actually, and not suprisingly, I did not know that he had/has a brother or about the Pie micro quest. I have yet to meet him and I'm not exactly sure what I'm gonna say to him when I do find him. Hope they bought a family plot.....

errr...Where exactly did you find this brother?

BTW m.t.bear, it often seems that I'm playing a different game than the everyone else too. For instance, the fire pit thingy. I chose the right entrance and when I came to the fire pits, I just closed my eyes and ran straight through them and through the open gate. My last guy got bonked on the head for a couple HP damage but that was it and off I went. I did not do the "pull-a-lever-get-scorched-get-healed-go-through-the-gate" thing. I'm probably missing out on something no doubt.

Thanks. I guess the two brothers don't get the chance to talk to one another. The AI had no idea that I killed the Keeper. His brother went through his spiel and I got the pie.

21. "RE: Crypt........Is there anythng else?"
There are at least two more quests after getting the signet ring and speaking to Scabban. One is to find another ring...I'm assuming it is not the signet ring, but I'm not sure because I haven't found it yet. The other is to find the sword of Maltbus. I did find this when I went back to kill Scabban last nite. It appeared in a place I had already been, but only after the quest was initiated. I suspect the ring has appeared someplace also, so I have more searching to do in the crypt prior to moving on.
