It is fairly long and (I think) much easier reading in a web page, so here is the link

1. "Wow"
Nice job Rick.

I guess I'm now going to wait until it drops in price a little. (Had a feeling a might do that anyway)

I look forward to reading more as you continue to play.

I think it's supposed to be $35 at CompUSA this week, at least according to my local newspaper ad.

Well, I was starting to like this game, but it just went downhill after about the 50th hour.

I don't know if it was the buggy quests, the stupid lever pulling games, or the buggy D3D graphics. But the idiotic lift maze in the Snake Temple did me in. I don't mind intuitive puzzles (like the Spider Nectar one)... but some of them are just mind numbing.

I think I might have stuck with it if I didn't encounter a bug at every turn. But they are rampant. And some are extremely bad... like the Scabban quest that prevents you from progressing in the Wizard's guild. Others are less benign but just as annoying... like getting stuck in the floor or ceiling and having to reload.

The game is alot easier (puzzle wise) after the serpent temple. i just reached the third city and looking back the serpent temple has been, by far, the toughest dungeon in the game. . . for being the second dungeon in the game its a real torture. BTW, the maze isn't so huge, you'll eventually hit a chute that takes you to the end of the dungeon.

really your very close to the end of the level.

i think this is the only game out now that can compare to wiz 5-7, with the graphics being a great addition.

my only complaint is that it won't be as huge as W7.

still though this is so far a mighty fine game for me, haven't experienced much in game stopping bugs . . . as well, the game has much more atmosphere then alot of games out there.

etc

my specs -

p2 450 / 128 ram / v5 - d3d 640 (sometimes play 1024)

I don't know. I didn't have that much trouble with the maze in Serpent Temple. I think it is a matter of being very thorough in exploration. I finished it in about an hour. Certain rules come into effect with any RPG.

If an elevator doesn't work, that is your goal. If you find a switch, it could only activate one thing. Once you remember which elevator didn't work, maybe marking it on the map, it was pretty straight forward from their. Once you got the key, there were only two places to use it.

I love the game. It does make you think, but most of the puzzles are from the old days of RPG's such as Wizardry. Some like that style, some don't. Most of the newer RPGs require very little thought as to solving problems. Though many of the newer RPG's have far more tactical combat. It's is a trade off.

that is true, WW is the only game out now that is more into the old adventure aspect of dungeon solving. . . like the old DW Bradly wizardryS of course!

i am surprised though at how much tactical thought goes into a game like Bg2. . . there are alot of areas in that game were its almost a given you WILL have to reload, even after dying the 5th or sixth time . . . my point being that tacitcal combat in the infinity engine games have there own plusses as well, whereas wiz/mm games being more hack n slash have a more plan your parties advancement approach.

one thing that surprises me about the bg infinity engine games is how much they are faithful to Pen n paper dnd (combat tactics wise). . . a melding of these two play styles (hack n slash with tactics) would be awesome!!! most likely though alot of the odd tactics employed in DnD infinity games is due to the "weird" ways spells work, and the varying conflicitng rules etc etc etc

anyway, what i was about to say mainly was i think WW could use a little more beefy monsters!!! other than that, its a great game!!

etc

No. I got through the Serpent lift maze in the first go... I work as an P/A so I have no problems with those kind of puzzles. The fact is that they're dated. I liked them in the 80s, but this is the year 2001 and inductive logic is boring.

That pretty much sums it up nicely Rick

Honestly, from my perspective of what I've seen and heard, I think I might be returning it fully and praying to god that Wizardry 8 will be better.

What will I do to pass the time?

Play Wizardry 6 and then 7 again!

You can't go wrong with the classics ;)

I have been playing for 2 days now about 6 hours total and I agree with most of
what you say, except...
1. Load/save times about 15 seconds on my P3 600 124 32meg Riva video
2. Targeting not that hard so far but I have only done part of crypt and a walk to the
broken cart.
3. No real bugs or crashes so far that I have noticed. Have not tried Alt/Tab.
4 Have not turned hardware on because of all the bad press.
5.If anything the movement is too damn fast it's taking me forever to master just walking around.
6.Rolling the damn characters was a bitch! I must have gotten 100 5-7 rolls before I got my first 10 which I took. I am hoping 12 is the max roll on extra points since thats the best I got (1 and 2 11s out of about 500 rolls).

You seem to be the outcast here when it comes to load time. You must have a blazingly fast hard drive or something. Here is a link to a message on HP's board where a guy with an Athlon 850 is complaing of the same lags.

As for rolling, it seems that pretty well emulates Wiz 7 I had a few good rolls out of the box, then mostly the bottom end as you saw. Maybe you should try using moslo

About the character rolling: i've got a 13 extra points roll once. However, i didn't take it, because as opposed to W7 system, your starting stats are random!(to some extent) So in fact, i ended up taking a character with only 4 bonus points because his base stats were so high.

llevram,
i have been lurking behind your boards by the cobwebs for quite some time, but now, finally...i have managed to go out and get w&w...i have to say i am very impressed. I would just like to comment on some of the problems you encounted on your initiation to the game......just because i feel they may have wrongly detered people from buying (dont we all feel we owe dw bradley something)

firstly your problem on picking items up....i too encountered difficulties when trying to pick arrows up, however i have now discovered that all items that are dropped by monsters can be collected by just walking over them the items are transfered to the ready pc's inventory now aint that nice

secondly, i also run a voodoo3 graphics card but have no problems with it....except i too get the blurry buttons on using it for w&w....except after changing the resolution to 640x480 on d3d the buttons appear as normal, this to me implies the problem is with the game not being optimised properly for high res....try it

oh the manual is poor and i dont see what the box cover has to do with the game well i couldnt find a portrait which looks like the women on the front cover

Well I gave up in the last city here is why.
1. My load times increased dramatically after the crypt.
2. Most of the battles were way too easy.
3. The combat interface took too much time to master.
4. Only one solution to most puzzles.
5. Too damn dark even with the illumination spell.
6. Quest monolouges aggrivating.
7. Nothing worth buying after fist city
8. Despite Mr Bradley's presence it had almost none of the Wiardry feel to it.

All in all I had some fun with the game but bored with it quickly. It has joined Diablo 2 and Arena 2 on the biggest disapointment/wont finish unless I am trapped without anything else to do pile.
