"Error"

I'm getting an error message other than the divide overflow when I try to play Bane of the Cosmic Forge...
If I try just to run the wroot.exe file, I get:
Error 60 loading overlay: WINIT
If I try running the playbane.bat I get this:
Error 60 loading overlay: WINITCOSMIC FORGE SYSTEM ERROR: Unknown Error - Please Report

Both these message I have to run under Windows in order even to see them...if I try to drop down to DOS, it just reboots my comp when I try to run either file.
If I try using Moslo and run it, it does a bit differently still, giving me a windows box titled "WROOT", and an illegal operation, details gives this:
The program tried to execute an invalid instruction.
Fault location: 1F6E:0100
Interrupts in service: None

Anyone out there maybe have an idea what may be causing this or even how I can get around or fix it?
Thanks a lot, appreciate any help that may be out there.
Oh yeah, I'm on an Athlon 600MHz chip with a 1st Mainboard SD11 motherboard, using Windows 98SE, if that helps.
