1. "RE: the codes to get in"
tried just pressing ENTER?
otherwise, you will need to look at whatever docs you have for it.
or someone may offer a patch for it.

You are only as brave as the challenges you take on

thank you for the reply. my version is for a mac. in that version when you get your party ready to enter the maze it requires you to answer to a challenge...for example the window will say an apparition challenges you with "wrju gttu" and you have to reply with a similar four letter response.unless someone has the sheet wiht the replies or knows of a cheat i cannot get in....again i thank anyone who can give me some help.

4. "RE: try google"
i thank you again for the response. i tried the google but did not find what i need. if you are familiar with the mac version circa 1992 when you get your party ready to enter the maze a dialogue box has an apparition giving you a password that is made of 2 four letter words such as "kanu atti". this password would be different each time you entered. and the countersign would also have to be different. there were probably over 100 variations. the game came with a two page listing of these various passwords and the four letter countersign you would have to type in to procede. i need the countersigns. if someone knows how i can get a copy of this i could play again. i am not looking for the kind of cheats that increase life or gold. i like playing the game on the level. i just need the countersigns to get in. thank you

... were not the codes, but how to get around not having the program ask you for them.

once again i thank you. two questions. one. i went to several sites but did not see what i wanted. the one site. gave a cheat on inserting any disk for the master disk. so my first question is there something more specific i should look for. second although i played the game i am not a techie that could get inot programs and change things. this is why i am much more interested in simply acquiring the listing of passwords and countersigns. so if you or anyone has them that would be my first preference. thank you

If the answer isn't there, and no one has responded here, chances are no one is playing that flavor of the game anymore. You might try other wizardry boards.

Use the Super Nintendo version and a SNES emulator. Then there is no copy protection or codes to worry about.

Try wwww.replacementdocs.com(or google "replacement docs" or something, I'm not 100% sure on the web address). I bought the Ultimate Wizardry Archives off Ebay, but all I got was the game, not the manual. I stumbled across replacementdocs.com while looking for an electronic version of the manual and downloaded it off of there without any problem. Just go on that site and type in something like "Wizardry I: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord" or something and see what comes up. If you're lucky, you'll get the original manual, complete with your passwords. By the way, you need Adobe Acrobat to download the document, so make sure you have that first.

One that last thing; does the request for password come up every time you enter the maze? In Wiz 5 of the UWA, a ghost will pop up randomly when I try to enter the maze, much like you described. It was random however, so by exiting the game and reentering I usually got into the maze without a password
