"Problem Transferring Party to Crusaders"
I recently went through Bane again, specifically to develop a good party to transfer to Wiz7 (and eventually Wiz8 ...?). It contains a faerie ninja and a diamond ring. However, when I try to transfer to Crusaders, the program always crashes after the opening sequence. This happens both for the original Wiz7 and for WizGold. I also checked with a different party, and that party transferred successfully. The ending chosen doesn't matter either, both the 'Take the Pen' and the 'Fly with Bela' ending both crash after the opening sequence.

I have concluded that something in my party's savegame file is corrupt. But I can't tell what, especially since I can still play the party within Bane. Does anyone have any suggestions of what else I can try? Any help would be appreciated.

1. "I'm no Bane expert .."
But if you want to email me your save games (i.e. your ending Wiz 6 party and beginning Wiz 7 party) I could take a look at them.

2. "Does transfer normally cause spell loss?"
I did it for the first time, so don't laugh please...

OK I understand that my characters get drained back to the start of level 5, with lowered skills and spell points, but why did CoDS stripped some of my spellcasters' (effective each character...) spells? So what should my priest do with her spell points in the earth and air realm with no spells in them? The same goes to my mage for fire (yeah, no energy blast!), earth (direction) and stripped mental (identify) spells...

It's not even deterministic, since I tried with 7 & Gold; at least, Wiz7 left my fireball (but not energy blast!)

My question is: is this normal, or there might be some problem with my savegames? Can it be that Bane or Crusaders (& Gold, then) has been damaged?

3. "RE: Does transfer normally cause spell loss?"
It is normal. As far as I can tell, it is the luck of the draw on which spells you get. I usually have at least 1 or 2 characters with spell points and no spells in one area.

I just thought what if I transferred the ending? By default, CoDS asks for a file with .BCF extension. Does the same phenomenon occur?

5. "The files are different"
The saved game layouts from 6 and 7 are different (otherwise, WizEdit would work with either, instead of just Wiz 7)

6. "RE: The files are different"
I know they are different. Sorry, my last post was a bit of a mess... Now, I meant, is there a difference between transferring an in-game save (of Bane) or an ending save (of Bane) to Crusaders? IIRC the ending save format was different in Crusaders, so what I wanted to ask: is there a difference between the general save and the ending save in Bane? And, if there is, does it influence the party transfer?

Hope this clears things up a bit.

7. "Wiz 7 files are different for complete/non-complete?"
Am I understanding you correctly on that? If so, could you elaborate?

As for where you thransfer, coming from Wiz 6, I believe if you tranfer an in progress (i.e. none of the "endings") saved game, you start in the beginners forest, on Wiz 7.

Nope. I meant Wiz 6 files... In some aspect, they really are different, at least that's what I deduce from your remark about starting place. But what I'm curious about, are character stats. Are they so drastically reduced even if you transfer an ending?

9. "Two parts to the saved game"
1. Who you are (i.e. the character records)
2. What you've done (the rest of the file)

I don't think you will see a difference in how the stats are reduced, bassed on your saved game (complete, incomplete, drop cross, take pen, ...)

I think that (the ending you took or haven't reached yet) only matters in deciding where to dump you on Lost Guardia.
