"What if I kill Queequeg..."
What if I kill Queequeg right after I tell him where the treasure is buried, and he doesn't reach it. What will I find inside the chest, and critical or powerful items that my party could use? Just wondering what is inside.

If you kill he during the same encounter that you tell him where the treasue is you can get the treasure of stuff you really don't need. Nothing very good claymores and the like. Also your party will have to pick up a "ticket stub" and Mystry Oil because they are "IMPORTANT ITEMS", basicly punishment for killing a NPC. My advice leave him be just not worth it.

3. "Bypassing Queequeg"
If you don't ever tell him anything, and via memory or a walkthru entire the pirate's den with the password, then when you get to the treasure, it's officially "Baubles and Trinkets".

Definitely DW Bradley flipping you off for cheating.

Nope Thats what Queequeg leaves you when you tell him where the treasure is located(if you read the note he leaves you you'll see that he does not want the Baubles and Trinkets). giving the password to the captian's den is a marker in the game that automaticly causes you the player to get Baubles and Trinkets if have not killed Queequeg when finding out the password.

"Offing" Queeque is not a really good thing to do. For two reasons, The first mentioned in this thread. The second is this: When You have your final meeting with the Bane King & Rebecca, you wind up "Somewhere in the forest..." You also have...nawww, I think that would spoil things.

btw: As mentioned, when you get to the mountains... well, you'll see!!

9. "RE: Spoiler?"
What???? And spoil it for everybody? Well, ok, here goes.

When you "off" Queequee, and you eventually arrive at the location on the mountain where you find a treasure chest (TC), or for that matter tell him where it is, *all* you get is a bag of trinkets and a note. Which is the game's way of telling you "ya shouldn't have done that..."

There are other ways of finding out the password into the "Den" and I won't bother with that here(since there *are* walkthroughs available at various sites (hint!!))

If you just leave "Q" alone, make it to the TC, Along with said bag, you'll find other stuff (my experince here has shown it to vary from nothing to a few items,) *and* "bag" some ve-ry good bonuses. I'm not sure as to the validity of the following numbers so, don't quote me!! Player Stats increase by 1 to 4 (doesn't do anything for spellcasters though(no extra spells given). Gold, is either 10,000 or 5,000. XPs: are in the same boat. (When I reached the TC this time, I had to go to the phone, so I don't recall the *exact* figs here. But I do recall that the one time I had gotten here (this being the 4th, or so, romp through the game) that bonuses were very, very good!!

Continuing, when you complete your game, you will wind up with a final meeting with Rebecca and the Bane King (this, folks, will depend on what you did in the Hall of the Dead). Among the items given, will be a key. *This* little gem gets you *back* into the castle --you find the door/gate(!!)-- and since your team will most likely have a load of loot, back to "Q" to sell!!

This will also allow you to go through the Castle, Mines, River Styx, etc. again should you wish to. I have, and it was a lot of fun!! BTW!!!!: I am *not* sure whether your XPs go up and are included in the next in the series. I rather doubt it since you are started at a certain level in all areas.

As for "those walkthroughs" if you do a search, you'll come across a couple of sites that will have maps and the walkthrough.

Enjoy!!

10. "Not quite"
Um, I've finished Bane a few times, and this is not how I remember it.
(1) As discussed earlier in this thread, if you kill Queequeg before you leave him after giving the password, then the Captain's Treasure Chest contains a few items, a lot of gold, the Baubles & Trinkets, and about 2,500 experience.

(2) If you kill Queequeg anytime later (i.e., you give the password, leave, return and kill him), or don't kill him, you will find that he reached the Captain's Treasure Chest before you. He leaves you a note and the Baubles & Trinkets. You also still get the 2,500 experience.

(3) After the final encounter with Rebecca and the Bane King, you do receive the North Entrance Key, allowing you to return to the rest of the game. You can then sell your treasure to Kuwali (best price), L'Montes (second best), Queequeg or Smitty (lowest price), assuming that one or more of these is still alive.

(4) I've never seen a stat increase from opening the Captain's Treasure Chest (except when the 2,500 experience point bonus raises level(s)).

11. "Agree"

I agree with Scary.

Actually I can't comment on 1) and 2), I've always taken the "normal" way and get Queequeg's note + Baubles.

3) Maybe add that you get the key everytime, regardless to what you did or didn't do to Queequeg. It's quite useless, though. You have finished the game and can leave. The money you transfer to Wiz7 is fixed, so no gain here either. Roaming round is just for fun.

btw: Isn't Kuwali supposed to run off when she encounters Bork? I always thought that she won't return! Now let me think - is it essential that the caterpillar gets his hookah? He only gives you the mushrooms, and they aren't essential. So the Kuwali may still be there. Right.

4) Does Bane raise the statistics at any time in the game (except from level-up)?

12. "RE: Agree"
I thought I was a bit rusty on this. Thanks for the update. ;)

Kuli, as for "your" questions/points, here's what I recall:

4) Nope. only at "Level-up". The XPs are added each time you have a "fight-encounter".

btw) Yes she does. Each time I've met her, she "runs off screaming". No, once she's gone, she stays gone. The pipe IS critical. But this depends on whether or not you still have the dagger. I've used the 'shrooms (here they ARE critical) AND the dagger. The 1st gets you a mild encounter with bugs, the other, with the Temple Guards (make sure you're fully rested & healed). Oh, and save first!

3) The key is ONLY had after your encounter with Rebecca and the King. And doesn't rely on what you do with Q.

16. "Forgot about ashes"
Oh yes, I forgot about the ashes. This game is so big that you can easily forget about one encounter.

When I talked about the pipe, and thus the mushrooms not being critical, I referred to the option of using the dagger to "get out of jail free". You won't miss a thing by not using the mushrooms.

4) i could be wrong, but i thought that Charon raises your character's statistics when you give him one of those containers of ash... the other one gets you gold and the last one gets you a key.

btw: i have always used the red mushrooms near the crack in the wall in the jail. how else can one get out of this room, if you don't have any mushrooms?

15. "RE: Agree"
Willow,

Charon does EXACTLY that. But only for 2 of the conatiners, you gotta take the 3rd one yourself.

4)You should, at this point, have a dagger. "Using" it at the gate, opens it. Be sure that your characters are well rested and healed. Caste ALL of your def. spells esp. Enchanted Blade, Armor, and Antimagic, before going for the gate! There are two(!!) encounters here. One after opening the gate and the next on the other side.

13. "RE: Not quite"
As noted later, I've never "re-encountered" her. Once I got the key, I went back to the River Styx and did a bit of wondering. Never met up with her again. So I think that she's a one time meeting. (I've played easy & normal most times and hard a few).

As for selling off stuff, I've gone to L'Montes only a couple of times. And then only to pick up a couple of items HE had. Were you able to have a "chat" with Kuwali in your enconter? I've never been able to "hold her attention" long enough.

17. "Hold her attention?"

What do you mean? I always thought that she's a NPC like everybody else!?! So you can trade, chat, fight... with her, until she meets Bork and swims away.

"Bork is on a rampage" - never quite understood what this dwarf was about. Was he bored? Gone crazy? Any answers?

Just that Kuli! I've run into her once and only once. An at THAT time, once I gave her the number she needed, she ran off. Although I'll have to see about this as I'm presently going through the game again and in (on??) the River. I'll get back to you once I find out. ;)

As for Bork... Who knows!?? The only thing I know is that he's one tough fight. BTW: What's a dwarf doing hanging aroung with giants????

19. "RE: Hold her attention?"
Just had a meeting with her. In order to have a chance to "barter" with her, simply engage her in some one or two word sentences and THEN say: "bye". This will bring up the choice list (for lack of better!!). You can now trade to your heart's content. HOWEVER, once you give her the number, she's gone.

20. "Reclamation"
Well, you must have cheated the first time you've enountered her...

If you don't know about the solution, the Hookah-quest goes as stated (correct me if I'm wrong):

1.) Caterpillar misses his pipe, says something about it being stored on the island

2.) Kuwali is asking for a claim-number

3.) Caterpillar can't remember claim-number

4.) Bottle oracle tells the number

5.) Kuwali opens door and runs away

--> You have to meet her at least twice. At the first time you should be able to trade with her, and she has the best goodies that can be bought.

21. "RE: Reclamation"
Wwweeelll.... Not exactly. My comment here was during my "present" trek through. At present, my 4th!!. I have found that if you engage her in a bit of idle gossip, then say: "bye" you then are able to interact with her as you would with L'Monte's, or Queequee. Buy, Sell, etc. I haven't tried to fight her though, but I'll see what happens and let you know. Somewhere in this topic, I think, I found out that for selling stuff or buying, She's a lot better than "Q".

The rest of the "plot" you give IS true. I've played Bane for a good while, and it's places like this that open my eyes to stuff I hadn't dreamed of!! Btw: There's two (2) ways outta the jail under the Temple of Ramm. The 'shrooms are 1.

22. "Kuwali Confusion"
There seems to be some confusion as to the identity of Kuwali Kubona, the Amuzulu High Priestess who is found in the Amazulu pyramid after speaking with the Queen (if you offer the proper sacrifice). If you fight with the Queen, Kuwali will come to her aid and you will never encounter her as a NPC. You will get her lovely Spear of Death, though!

I'm afraid Kuwali has been confused with Mai Lai, another lovely Amuzulu warrior who guards the keep at the River Styx. She is the one who swims off after you give her the reclamation number. I am reluctant to do this since she sells a lot of very good items (but does not offer a good price in return, unlike Kuwali). The best reason to send her off is to get the Hammer+1.5 from Bork which is an excellent secondary weapon (especially for my Samurai). The pipe makes life a little easier in the prison and the random items in the chest may come in handy, but if you don't need the Hammer, then I would leave her be. Once she swims off, you will never see her again.

23. "RE: Kuwali Confusion"
The pipe is not used in the prison. THAT gets returned to the "space cadet" of a caterpiller, who will give you a couple of red mushrooms. These are used in the prison.

On a nother note about the prison, in another note elsewhere, I mentioned that the mushrooms are NOT the only way outta that place.

As for the confusion of names... Hey, it happens. The queen wasn't the kind of person I felt like bartering with, I did, however have a chance to fight--and bested her too! Didn't give me much in the way of items though, so I chaulked that up to "here's another NPC to leave alone."

I didn't want to give too much away, and thus I did not explain exactly how the pipe makes life easier in the prison. Suffice it to say, if you don't make a tiny escape with the red mushrooms you will have to battle the nasty guardians outside the cell.

I KNOW!! But when you try to gain entry to the Temple from the forest, you're going to meet with them anyway!! Besides, depending what your game level is set at, these encounters are not so bad! Just make sure your well rested and healed up. Throw your defensive spells and have at them. There are only two encounters outside the cell.
